Froch Fires Back: “Never-Been” John Fury Can’t Handle Criticism

By Charles Brun - 02/01/2024 - Comments

Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch defended himself, lashing back at Tyson Fury’s dad, John Fury, after his remarks about him being a “has-been” following Carl’s comments about Fury’s weak as water career resume.

The Spark

The 59-year-old John Fury got up in arms when Froch pointed out the obvious about WBC heavyweight champion Fury’s resume being unimpressive, with no real names other than 40-year-old washed Wladimir Klitschko, who was at the tail-end of his career when Tyson fought him in 2015, and a non-world level Deontay Wilder.

What are you left with when you eliminate the entirely shot Wladimir and the unskilled, uncoordinated Deontay from Fury’s resume? These are what’s left after you take away those dudes:

  • Otto Wallin
  • Dillian Whyte
  • Dereck Chisora

What’s surprising is how Fury has been able to milk his one significant win over an over-the-hill Wladimir Klitschko and make a mountain of money out of it and receive claim & love from his UK boxing fans, who are in the dark about his lack of quality opposition since that one win in 2015. You hate to call them sheep, but that seems fitting.

Fury’s wins since Klitschko:

Francis Ngannou
Dereck Chisora
Dillian Whyte
Deontay Wilder x 2
Otto Wallin
Tom Schwarz
Francesco Pianeta
Sefer Seferi

What a dreadful bunch, aren’t they?

Froch’s Counterpunch

“He called me a has-been. That comes from somebody who was a never-been,” said Carl Froch on his YouTube site, talking about Tyson Fury’s dad, John, who got up in arms this week over the Gypsy King’s resume getting put under the microscope.

Charles Brun entirely agrees with Froch. John Fury was a terrible fighter during his career, posting a record of 8-4-1 before retiring in 1995. He was knocked out in his final two fights by little-known Steve Garber and Henry Akinwande.

Fury’s dad never did anything during his career and got out of sports while he was still young.

“I don’t need to discredit Tyson Fury to make my career look better,” Carl continued. “Tyson’s got four wins over world champions, I’ve got 11.

“You said I should be kissing his a***. Here lies the problem – because I’m not kissing his a***, you’re getting upset; you’re supposed to be thick-skinned, a big hard man, a fighting man, but you can’t take criticism.”

Fury’s best wins are against Wilder, who was never a good fighter from the get-go, Wladimir, and Whyte.
