Ellerbe Defends Rolly Romero, Calls Cruz “Tailor-Made” Match-up, Criticizes Ryan Garcia Offer

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe dismisses criticism from fans about Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero’s controversial win over Ismael Barroso last May, and he’s confident he’ll defeat Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz on March 30th on Amazon Prime PPV.

Ellerbe also said that recent failed negotiations with Ryan Garcia were due to a “s***y offer” made to Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs). He still believes a fight between WBA light welterweight champion Rolly and Ryan can happen later after he defends against Cruz (25-2-1, 17 KOs).

Rolly could be heading toward defeat next month against lightweight ‘Pitbull’ Cruz because he’s facing a good opponent and not a 40-year-old.

Boxing fans point out there Rolly won’t have a referee to save him from defeat like the last time he fought, when his fight was stopped in the ninth round after he threw a flurry of punches, with all missing badly, and the fight was stopped,

“Tailor-Made” for Cruz

“Styles make fights. You don’t know what Rolly was going through. You don’t know what was happening in his camp. You don’t know any of those things. You got to move on, but I guarantee you that this guy [Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is tailor-made for Rolly. He’s tailor-made,” said Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe to Fight Hub TV, reacting to being told Romero didn’t look good in his last fight against Barroso last May.

Rolly is going to have to make huge improvements from his previous 16 fights for him to defeat Pitbull Cruz because he’s too flawed defensively, and he has zero boxing skills.

The oddsmakers have Pitbull Cruz as the favorite, and that tells you a lot. They don’t believe in Rolly, and neither do the fans. They feel he’s an illegitimate champion, the weakest link at 140, and will be easy work for Pitbull.

Rejecting Ryan Garcia’s Fight Offer

“It was a s**** offer, and that’s my opinion,” said Ellerbe when asked why the fight between Ryan Garcia and Rolly didn’t get made recently. “You’ll hear Oscar [De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions] say something different, but that’s his opinion, too.

“He’s not the only other side of the thing. So, you’re not going to make our kid go to work and do all this. Ryan is a tremendous fighter, and who’s to say they don’t fight sometimes down the road? Rolly is just focused on Pitbull,” said Ellerbe.
