Boxing Results: Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington Knocks Out Torres In The 4th Round

In the opening bout of the Top Rank triple header that featured O’Shaquie Foster vs Abraham Nova, blue-chip featherweight prospect Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington knocked out Bernard Torres (18-2, 8 KOs) in the fourth round.

Once again Carrington displayed all the tools that make him a top prospect in his weight class. He showed patience, the ability to control distance, an effective jab, good punch placement, and knockout power.

The 26-year-old Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York native Bruce Carrington was very active in 2023 as he fought five times and posted five impressive victories. As a result of his success, Carrington won the Ring Magazine 2023 Prospect of the Year award.

On Friday night February 16th, in the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, Bruce Carrington officially kicked off his 2024 boxing campaign by making a first. For the first time in his pro boxing career, Shu Shu Carrington was on the ESPN main card, fighting on national television.

In the opening round of the bout, Carrington looked very relaxed as he stood in the pocket utilizing the high guard and changing levels with the jab. His opponent, the Filipino southpaw Bernard Torres had a moment at the midpoint of the first round when he landed a solid three punch combination.

Carrington continued to dictate the pace of the fight in round two as he consistently landed the jab and the right hand. In the closing seconds of round 2, Torres connected with a short right hand, and then Carrington responded immediately by landing a left hook.

In the fourth round of the bout, Carrington was very aggressive as he was pressing forward, and instead of throwing single shots, he was landing more combinations. With a few seconds left to go in the round, Bruce Carrington knocked out Bernard Torres when he landed a vicious right hand.

As the fight came to a sudden end, Carrington looked into the crowd and shouted, “This is my house!” With the win, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington improved to a record of (11-0, 7 KOs). During his post-fight interview Carrington spoke about his home field advantage.

“It always means the world to perform in front of my home crowd. New York City. Y’all make me want to turn up every time. Every single time I fight here I get a knockout. Every time I fight here I get a stoppage.”

Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington is a highly skilled boxer who is on the fast track in regards to making the transition from prospect to contender. Currently ranked number 8 by the WBO, it will be very interesting to see how far Carrington can rise in the rankings during the course of this calendar year.
