Jaime Munguia says he’ll be ready to face Canelo Alvarez in May if he’s victorious against John Ryder in his fight on January 27th on DAZN. The highly ranked Munguia confirms that he’s already had preliminary talks for a fight with the superstar Canelo for May 4th, and he’s hopeful the match will happen.

#1 WBO Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) is one of the leading candidates to get the fight against the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo, but he must defeat Ryder (32-6, 16 KOs) and look impressive in their twelve round headline attraction at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona
KO Hunt On for Munguia
The Freddie Roach-trained Munguia feels he needs a knockout of Ryder to make a statement, as that would be doing something that Canelo and no one else has done before.
For the 27-year-old Munguia to do that, he must use his high-volume punching to overwhelm the 35-year-old Ryder, who looked close to being knocked out in his last fight against Canelo in May of last year.
Canelo had Munguia on the deck in the fifth but couldn’t put him away because he was focusing on throwing single shots after he got back up. Munguia says if the knockout doesn’t come, he’s ready to go the full twelve rounds to get the win.
“We’re aiming for the knockout. We know Ryder is a tough fighter. We trained for twelve rounds, so we’re prepared for war,” said Jaime Munguia to Fight Hub TV about his clash with John Ryder on January 27th.
“I’ll do my best to do it [get the KO of Ryder], but I think I’ll do it.
Canelo Calling? Talks Ongoing, May Date in Play
“If we win, we want to fight the best in the division. We had a couple of talks, nothing formal, no paperwork, but hopefully, after this fight, we’ll be glad to do it,” said Munguia on whether he’ll be fighting Canelo Alvarez next. “Yeah,” said Munguia when asked if he’ll fight Canelo in May if he gets the win.
“I’m happy, and I’ll adjust a couple of things. It’s part of the learning and the growth,” said Munguia on whether he was happy with his last performance against Sergiy Derevyanchenko last June.
