Haney vs. Garcia: War of Words Escalates as PPV Numbers Become Battleground

Devin Haney, still stewing after losing out on a mega-fight, took to social media to snipe at Ryan Garcia, questioning why his last fight against Oscar Duarte didn’t sell out and has only fought on PPV once in his career against Gervota Davis.

Haney is having difficulty coming to terms with Ryan canceling his plans to fight him next after learning of his low PPV totals for his fight with Regis Prograis on December 9th on DAZN. The 50K numbers were leaked, which had a poisonous effect as it steered Ryan away, treating Haney like he had the plague.

It would be more effective on Haney’s part if he were to have DAZN release the PPV numbers for his fight with Prograis so that he could prove to Ryan Garcia, fans, and media that he can draw, Then there would be a reason for the social media superstar Kingry to face him.

Haney Throws Shade

If Ryan is such a big draw, why has he only fought on PPV once? Never before, never after. Why couldn’t he sell the last arena [Toyota Center] he fought in?” said Devin Haney on Twitter.

Haney’s post appears to be a retaliatory gesture in response to Ryan’s comment to InsideFighting:

“Devin lost his shot; he thought it was Haney vs. Garcia; he should’ve known it was Garcia vs. Haney. He did 35,000 PPV buys [vs Regis Prograis].”

Haney can’t refute the huge PPV success of Ryan’s fight with Gervonta Davis last April, which brought in the highest totals for the year.

The event brought in over a million PPV buys on Showtime, and many believe that Ryan generated most of the money due to his 11 million Instagram followers. When you compare this number to the 50K PPV buys for Haney-Prograis, it’s understandable why Ryan wants nothing to do with him.

Rolly reacts to getting Ryan Garcia fight

“We will see,” said Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero to Fighthype when asked about how it feels now that Ryan Garcia is saying he’s going to fight him next. “Carrying boxing is very difficult.

“I don’t really have a reaction towards it. It’s just that I’m the biggest,” said Rolly when asked if he was surprised that Ryan decided to come back in his direction. Oscar [De La Hoya] likes me a lot.

“I don’t know anything about that. I’m not too much into social media,” said Rolly when told that De La Hoya was still interested in making the Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney fight, even after Kingry instructed Oscar to begin negotiations with Romero.

“We shall see,” said Rolly on how much different the fight with Ryan be compared to when the two sparred when they were teenagers
