By Allan Fox: Trainer Brian “BoMac” McIntyre has reportedly been set free, given a 20-month suspended prison sentence for carrying a loaded firearm in the UK.

Ollie McManus reports that McIntyre has been given a two-year suspended sentence for carrying the gun. If McIntyre is arrested again in the UK for carrying a gun during the next two years, he could face prison time.

It’s a good thing for BoMac that he wasn’t given a lengthy prison term, as it would wreck his career as a trainer just when he’s picking up notoriety, thanks to his work with the Nebraska native, Terence Crawford.

‘BoMac,’ who trains undisputed welterweight champion, Crawford, was arrested in September in Manchester, England, after a gun was discovered in his suitcase while he was leaving the country after the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Liam Smith fight.

It’s believed by some that BoMac’s rationale for carrying a gun was to protect himself. What’s unclear is where BoMac purchased the firearm. Did he bring it into the UK from the U.S., or was it purchased from a private party while he was in England?

BoMac being set free is good news for Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), who will need him for his rematch with Errol Spence Jr. or if he gets the mega-fight that he’s been eagerly pushing for against undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.

If BoMac were to be given a lengthy prison term for carrying a gun in the UK, Crawford would be on his own for perhaps the remainder of his career, which is expected to end in the next two or three years.

Moving forward, BoMac McIntyre will need to be careful when traveling to different countries because if he feels he needs to carry a gun with him at all times, he could continue to be arrested left & right and will wind up incarcerated.

It might be better for McIntyre to have a bodyguard to travel with him who can protect him from harm when he’s out in about.

There’s got to be a lot of big guys in the UK that BoMac could hire to protect him when he’s out on the town or wherever he frequents when he’s in that country. With the money that BoMac has made as Crawford’s trainer, he should be able to get a bodyguard quite easily in the UK that he can use wherever he goes while in the country.
