By Charles Brun: Anthony Joshua is starting to lose patience with Tyson Fury due to his reluctance to fight him. AJ feels that Fury has been swerving him, but the real problem is the big money he’s making fighting easier options.
Fury is currently tied up with fights against non-boxer Francis Ngannou on October 28th and then unified champion Oleksandr Usyk in December.
If the reports are true that Fury & Ngannou have a two-way rematch clause, Tyson will likely be busy until 2025 before he’s free to face Joshua. Hopefully, Joshua doesn’t get beaten again while waiting for Fury because he looks 100% shot now and food for ANY top-five contenders.
“I wish I could balance this because he’s [Fury] ducking. He’s definitely a duck. Whether he’s ducking me, not right now, but he’s definitely a duck,” said Anthony Joshua to DAZN Boxing, complaining about Tyson Fury not showing interest in fighting him.
“That’s facts like you can’t deny he’s a duck.”
Fury is taking advantage of his popularity by scooping up the dough being thrown at him by the Saudis for easier fights. Like any normal person who has the chance of making easy money, Fury is taking advantage of the situation.
The two attempted to put together a fight in 2021 and 2022 but with no luck. Fury went toward British journeymen Dillian Whyte Dereck Chisora, while Joshua took on similar easy opponents, Jermaine Franklin & Robert Helenius.
Joshua is showing absolutely needs the fight with Fury to happen ASAP because there’s a perfect chance that he could start losing nonstop.
AJ’s career is on thin ice, struggling to beat even fringe-level heavyweights, and he needs the mega-fight with Fury (33-0-1, 24KOs) to happen soon, or it will be too late.
Joshua hoped to fight Deontay Wilder next, but the Saudis chose not to put that fight on for whatever reason. That fight could happen now, but Joshua & Hearn’s focus on getting as much money as possible for the contest makes things difficult because the Saudis aren’t interested.
The Joshua-Wilder fight could happen in December in the UK or the U.S., but they want to wait to see if the Middle East money comes through for that match. On paper, it’s a far better fight than Joshua-Fury because Fury is just a dull mauler at this point in his career, using grappling to win.
British fans prefer to see Joshua & Furyfight, although it’ll likely be boring. The best thing Fury has going for him is his gift for gab, as he does a lot of promotion to create interest in his fights.
However, he’s not interesting to watch inside the ring compared to Wilder and many other heavyweights in the division.
