By Dan Ambrose: Coach Dave Coldwell was surprised to learn of Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, the trainer for Chris Eubank Jr., being arrested on Sunday, September 4th, after a loaded gun was discovered in his suitcase at the Manchester airport while attempting to leave the UK.
Coldwell wants to know where BoMac got the gun, as the UK banned handguns in 1997. Did BoMac bring the gun from the U.S. into the UK when he came to the country for Eubank Jr’s fight last Saturday night against Liam Smith at the AO Arena in Manchester?
If it was BoMac’s own licensed gun that he brought from the U.S., Coldwell wonders how he got it through the airport security scanners. Surely, it would have been discovered at the airport in the U.S., preventing BoMac from boarding the plane to fly over to the UK.
BoMac has been jailed since Sunday, and he will remain in jail until October 9th. The gun laws are strict in the UK, and being caught with a loaded gun at an airport is very serious.
If BoMac is given a lengthy jail sentence, Eubank Jr. and Terence Crawford will need to find someone else to train them while he’s incarcerated.
How did BoMac get the gun?
“Your interview where he was talking about his rap sheet. Was he joking, or was it a veiled joke because now, it looks like the kind of guy he is,” said trainer Dave Coldwell to Boxing King Media about Chris Eubank Jr’s coach Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre being arrested at Manchester airport after a loaded gun was found in his luggage.
“It’s difficult, isn’t it? All I know is he’s got a loaded gun at an airport, and it’s not a good look, especially in this day and age. I’m a big fan of BoMac. I’m a big fan of Crawford and everything that they’ve done, but you’ve got to say he’s f***ked up a little bit there.”
What on earth was BoMac thinking in bringing a loaded gun to an airport? That’s what a lot of boxing fans are thinking. Did he think it wouldn’t be noticed?
“If that’s anyone else, you run them like a ton of bricks, and you’re thinking, ‘What are you doing?’ I get back in America, you can carry guns. They don’t feel as though it’s anything. How’s he got the gun?” Coldwell continued about BoMac.
Did BoMac go gun shopping?
“He must have bought the gun over here, or he’s got through security coming into this country with that. If that’s his own gun that’s registered to him and licensed and everything, and it’s all legal in America, he’s got through security, airport security. How’s he do that?” said Coldwell.
Why did BoMac have the gun loaded? What was that all about?
“If it’s not, while he’s here, he’s gone gun shopping. People do [buy guns in the UK], but he’s gone out of his way to buy a gun if that’s not his own licensed gun. Why has he done that? I just think it’s stupid.
“I get that people in different countries have different rules. They can carry guns over there. I get that, but he’s not in his country, and he’s not an idiot. He knows. So, a bit stupid,” said Coldwell about BoMac.
