By Dan Ambrose: Canelo Alvarez says he’s not going to be overlooking the skills or power of Jermell Charlo on Saturday night in their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The self-confidence Jermell (35-1-1, 19 KOs) seemed to annoy Canelotodayduringtheir final press conference because the way that Charlo was firing back at the Mexican star was a lot different from what he’s been accustomed to dealing with from his opponents.
Jermell Charlo: “Don’t overlook my experience, Don’t overlook my power, and don’t overlook my skills.”
Canelo Alvarez: “I never did. I believe in my skills; he always called me out, and I’m ready to show him in a couple of days. You never prove anything to the people. They always have something to say. I want to prove to myself that I’m still at the top.”
Jermell Charlo: “No matter what he says, I come to win this fight. There are a lot of people who don’t believe in you, but we shall see on Saturday. If that’s his motivation to prove his boxing skills, so well be it. I’m coming to win.
“Moving up two weight divisions, coming off injuries, I feel like I deserve to be in my position, and now this is the time. I get to prove my skills and my worthiness.
Brian Custer: Canelo, there have been a number of guys who’ve called you out because they want to fight you, and then they get in the ring, and they find out that moment is really big, and now they’re in the fight with you. So what is Jermell Charlo going to find out Saturday night?
Canelo: “It’s hard to say, it’s hard to say what he’s going to find. I guess he’s going to feel it. He’s going to realize it’s something different. He never used to be with a fighter like me.”
Jermell: “That’s what I’m here for, and that’s what I’m made for. I’m a warrior, and I’ll do what I have to do. I feel like Canelo has never seen a fighter of my caliber. I know he’s seen a lot of fighters.
“He’s been in with great fighters, but there’s something that I bring to the table that’s a lot different than fighters that he’s been in the ring with. So, we share the ring on Saturday, and this will be one of the most attention-grabbing moments.
“I appreciate everything that is going on right now, and I appreciate Canelo for accepting me, the little Charlo, but the little Charlo is coming to fight and is coming to win.”
