Boxing results: William Zepeda Stops Mercito Gesta!

By Ken Hissner: At the Commerce Casino, Commerce, California on Mexican Independence Day Saturday over DAZN promoter Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy Promotions) presented in the Main Event WBA Continental Americas Lightweight champion William ‘Camaron’ Zepeda making his fifth defense destroyed Mercito ‘Guerrero No Mercy’ Gesta finally stopping him in the sixth round.

In the co-Main Event WBA Inter-Continental Featherweight champion Victor Morales defeated a game Edwin ‘Pupo’ Palomares despite suffering cuts in the second half of the fight with both eyes nearly half shut.

In the Main Event WBA Continental Americas Lightweight champ southpaw Wiliam ‘Camaron’ Zepeda, 29-0 (25), #134 ¼, of San Mateo Atenco, MEX, overwhelmed stopping southpaw Mercito ‘Guerrero No Mercy’ Gesta, 34-4-3 (17), #134 ¼, of San Diego, CA, at 1:31 of the sixth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the second through the fourth rounds Zepeda dealt out a vicious body attack having Gesta on the defense with little return.

In the fifth round Gesta had much swelling under his right eye from the furious attack by Zepeda who went from the body to end with a right uppercut on the chin at the bell. The fight was almost stopped between rounds.

In the sixth round Zepeda landed over a dozen unanswered punches having Gesta against the ropes before referee Reiss finally called a halt!

In the co-Main Event WBA Inter-Continental Featherweight champ Victor Morales, 19-0-1 (9), #126, of Vancouver, WA, defeated a game Edwin ‘Pupo’ Palomares, 18-5-2 (9), #125 ½, of La Laguna, Mexico City, MEX, over 10 solid rounds.

In the first three rounds Morales landing punches with ‘bad intentions’ look for an early knockout against game Palomares.

In the fourth round Palomares suffered a small cut on the bridge of his nose from a Morales right.

In the fifth round Palomares keeps coming forward walking into punches mostly rights on the chin from Morales. In the sixth round a right uppercut from Palomares opened a cut on the left eyebrow of Morales along with blood from the mouth. In the seventh round Palomares kept the pressure on Morales who countered on occasions.

In the eighth and ninth rounds Morales countered well with his right against the oncoming Palomares. Looking at the face of Morales with both eyes half shut you would never know he was well ahead in the fight.

In the tenth and final round with his left eye almost closed Morales had Palomares out on his feet in the final minute. He looked to Referee Ray Corona as if for a stoppage but there was no quit in Palomares.
Scores were 100-90, 99-91 and 96-94 with 97-93 KH.

IBF and WBO World Minimum champ Yoka Valle, 29-2 (9), #105, of San Jose, CR, made a successful defense in defeating a game Maria ‘La Imparabal’ Micheo Santizo, 11-4 (6), #104 ¼, of Guatemala, over 10×2 rounds.

In the first three rounds Valle using a solid left to the chin of Santizo with both scoring well with no let up. In the fourth and fifth rounds Valle landed numerous overhand rights and left hooks on the chin of Santizo.

In the seventh round a clash of heads halfway through the round caused a cut on the bridge of the nose of Valle who took another round looking for a knockout but Santizo takes too good a punch. In the tenth and final round Valle out landed Santizo who got in a couple of rights to the chin of her own. Referee Thomas Taylor.

Scores were 99-91 twice and 100-90 as did KH.

Super Middle ‘DFG’ Darius Fulghum, 7-0 (7), #170 ¾, of Houston, TX, stopped Ricardo ‘Tyson’ Luna, 25-10-2 (16), #170 ¾, of Ciudad Nezahuaelcoyoti, MEX, at 1:30 of the second round of a scheduled 8 rounds.

In the first round Luna suffered a cut above his right eye on the forehead halfway through the round. By the end of the round his face was a mask of blood. In between rounds Luna said, “I can’t see due to the blood in my eyes!” He took a beating in the round and was dropped with a left hook on the chin for an 8-count from Referee Ray Armendariz. Upon rising the referee waved it off.

Middle Eric Priest, 11-0 (7), #159 ¾, of Kansas City, KS, defeated Simon ‘Vikingo’ Madsen, 13-2 (10), #158 ½, of Horsens, DK and Cancun, Quintana, Roo, MEX, over 8 rounds.

In the first four rounds this was coming off his first loss a tough opponent for Madsen. Priest won all four rounds using a good right uppercut to the chin of Madsen.

In the fifth round the fight remained in the center of the ring and could have been fought in a phone booth. Priest rocked Madsen in the final seconds with a right uppercut and then danced away.

In the eighth and final round Priest drew blood from the nose of Madsen midway through the round pitching a shutout in a tough fight for both. Referee was Thomas Taylor.

Scores were 76-76, 79-73, 80-72 as did KH.

Super Featherweight Daniel Garcia, 7-0 (5), #132, of Westminster, COL, defeated southpaw Erick ‘Aidahoe, 4-5 (1), #131 ½, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, MEX, over 6 rounds.

Referee Ray Corona. Scores were all 60-54. Garcia’s left eyelid cut in sixth round.

Super Light Alejandro Reyes, 11-0 (5), #139 ½, of Lancaster, CA, won a majority decision over Roberto ‘Zarinana’ Gomez, 5-3 (5), #140, of Distrito Federal, MEX, over 6 rounds.

Referee Ray Armendariz. Scores were 58-56, 57-57, 59-55.

Super Bantamweight Gael Cabrera, 2-0 (1), #126 ¼, of Sonora, MEX, defeated Juan Centeno, 8-10-3 (1), #127 ½, of Managua, NIC, over 4 rounds.

Referee Jack Reiss. Scores were all 40-36.

Lightweight Jordan Cervantes, 1-0 (0), #136 ½, of Montebello, CA, defeated Giovanny Meza, 0-5 (0), #137 ¼, of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, MEX, over 4 rounds.
