Jermall Charlo looking messed up, will Canelo take a chance on him?

By Adam Baskin: A messed up-looking Jermall Charlo, with an IV sticking out of his left arm, took to social media today to tell his followers that he intends on resuming his stalled boxing career.  It’s unclear what the IV was for.

Whatever it was, it seemed to drain Jermall to the point where he was nodding off at the end of the four-minute video.

If rumors are true that Canelo will be fighting Jermall next if he defeats his twin Jermell Charlo on September 30th, it would be smart for the Mexican start to have someone on a backup that can step in if something goes wrong in training camp or with the testing.

A good understudy like David Benavidez, David Morrell Jr., or Terence Crawford training just in case Jermall has an issue and can’t make it to the ring.

If you’re Canelo, you probably want to focus on fighting someone from the 168-lb division next and not continue to select opposition from two or more weight classes below.

Jermall fights at 160, so he really shouldn’t even be fighting Canelo because contenders have been waiting for their shot to challenge Canelo for his titles since he won them in 2021.

If Canelo isn’t feeling up to the task of fighting the top contenders at 168, he should relinquish the belts and then go ahead and continue fighting whoever he wants.

The 33-year-old Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs), who still holds the WBC middleweight after 2+ years of inactivity, didn’t look or sound good, with eyes glazed and slurring his words as he spoke.

It wasn’t so much the slurring that Jermall was doing that had boxing fans on social media commenting, but the glassy-eyed look, as he was drained in appearance while lying down in what appeared to be the living room of his mansion in Dallas, Texas.

“I know you ain’t see me in a minute, but I really be on my s**t,” said a slurring Jermall Charlo on social media today, looking glazed-eyed. “I’m over here getting dripped up, draped out.”

What Jermall should do is fight Caleb Plant next because that guy slapped him real bad recently, and there are fans that want to see him gain revenge.

“I’ve been off for a bit, but I took time [2+ years] to get away to myself,” said Jermall. Thank you for rocking with me. Even though I know it’s been a while, I’m to myself now.

“Everything is going to come back together. I promise,” said Jermall, who looked like he was about to nod off at this point.
