Regis Prograis said Teofimo is “mentally broken,” can’t beat Taylor

By Dan Ambrose: Regis Prograis feels that former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is a “mentally broken” individual after what he’s gone through inside & outside the ring, and he’s going to lose to WBO light welterweight champion Josh Taylor this Saturday, June 10th at Madison Square Garden in New York. Regis says Teofimo “isn’t all there anymore.” In other words, Teo is now a basket-case.

Prograis sees Teofimo (18-1, 13 KOs) as an example of a fighter that had a short shelf life but wasn’t able to keep it together mentally. Teo’s time on the front lines in the battlefield in the last three years caused him to crumble mentally.

Prograis predicts that Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) will walk Teofimo down on Saturday night and beat him up if he doesn’t score a knockout.  He thinks a knockout is possible for Taylor, but if not, he’ll thrash the former unified lightweight champ.

It would be a sad way for Teofimo’s career as a major player to end, but he would have likely been finished off already if Top Rank had matched Teo tough in his last two fights against one of the killers at 140, like Subriel Matias, Gary Antuanne Russell, Richardson Hitchins, Arnold Barboza Jr or Jose Ramirez.

“Mentally, I don’t think he’s ready bro. Mentally, Teo is broken. He really is broken,” said Regis Prograis to Fighthype about Teofimo Lopez. “He’s going through a lot of stuff. He has a lot of personal
things going on.

“Yeah, I think Josh is just going to break his Spirit. He’s really going to break him. Mentally, I don’t think Teo is all the way there. It’s like he
fold. He’s one of those people that was very, very skillful at first and he had so much talent but once you take that away, then what does he have left?

“In the Kambosos fight, it showed that can be taken away. With the Sandor Martin fight, it showed that’s not enough. He needs to be mentally strong. I just think mentally; he’s just not there.

“I don’t know if Josh will get a stoppage or not. Teo has never been stopped, but maybe he do. Maybe he do get a stoppage. I don’t see how Teo can beat Josh. I just don’t see him beating him. That’s all. I just don’t see him beating him.

“Yeah, I think Josh is going to dog-walk him.  If h doesn’t get a stoppage, he’s going to beat him up,” said Prograis.
