By Vince D’Writer: This past weekend’s boxing schedule was filled with action on two premier boxing platforms, but probably the most exciting fight of the weekend was the co-main that aired on DAZN, as Juiseppe Cusumano defeated Adam Kownacki (20-4, 15 KOs) by way of 8th round stoppage.

The bout was part of the Matchroom Boxing card that was headlined by the clash between Edgar Berlanga and Jason Quigley. The co-main featured two heavyweights in which one was trying to build on his winning streak, and the other was attempting to break his losing streak.

Coming into the bout, Juiseppe Cusumano was riding a two-fight win streak. He was attempting to extend his streak, as he was hopeful that a victory on June 24th could lead to a more lucrative opportunity.

His opponent Adam Kownacki’s boxing career resembles a roller coaster ride. In his previous six fights, Kownacki beat Charles Martin, Gerald Washington, and Chris Arreola, but then he was defeated twice by Robert Helenius and lost to Ali Eren Demirezen by unanimous decision.

During the opening round of the June 24th co-feature, Cusumano landed the right hand on multiple occasions. In the final seconds of the first round, Cusumano tripled up on the jab and proceeded to land a right hand that sent Kownacki down to the canvas.

Kownacki made it up to his feet, and when the action resumed, Cusumano hit Kownacki with a flurry of shots. As the bell rang to officially end the opening round, Kownacki stumbled back to his corner.

At the start of the second round, the doctor examined Kownacki, and then he decided to allow the match to continue. Cusumano started the round by landing multiple right hand shots, but Kownacki was able to come back in the final minute of the round as he attacked his opponent’s body.

Kownacki came out in the third round once again targeting the body with the jab and the right hand. As Kownacki seemed to be in control of the round, Cusumano landed a couple of big right hands, and then the two heavyweights proceeded to trade heavy shots as the round came to a close.

The fourth round consisted of back-and-forth action as both men landed big shots. In the 5th round, Kownacki landed a solid body shot, and Cusumano responded by landing a couple of hard right hands. At the start of round 6, the ringside physician took a look at Cusumano prior to allowing the action to continue.

During the sixth round, Cusumano was able to land a couple of solid uppercuts. At the 1:57 mark of the 7th round, Cusumano landed a barrage of heavy punches, but Kownacki was able to rally back and land some significant power shots of his own.

The bout continued in the 8th round as Kownacki was using the jab and going down to the body of his opponent. With 1:11 remaining in the 8th round, Cusumano hit Kownacki with a devastating overhand right. He proceeded to hit Kownacki with a flurry of shots that forced Kownacki’s corner to throw in the towel and officially put a halt to the contest.

With the win, Juiseppe Cusumano improved his record to (22-4, 20 KOs). Cusumano has now won three fights in a row, and he’s looking forward to continuing his career, while Adam Kownacki may call it a career after suffering his fourth loss in a row.

Juiseppe Cusumano and Adam Kownacki may not be the well-known names of the fight game, but these two warriors came together and produced an action-packed battle on June 24th that will definitely go down as the fight of the night.
