Ryan Garcia says he’s returning soon at 140, Rolly Romero offering title shot

By Dan Ambrose: Ryan Garcia posted on social media today, saying he’s got a fight at 140 “coming soon.” The recently beaten Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) didn’t say who he’s fighting, but he’s being offered an immediate title shot by WBA champion Rolando ‘Rolly Romero.

If Ryan wants a golden opportunity to win a belt, he’s got it against Rolly because it doesn’t get better than this.

Taking the fight against Rolly would give Ryan a relatively safe match-up for his first contest with new coach Derrick James in his corner.

It would be a mistake for Ryan to pass this fight up because Rolly isn’t expected to hold onto his WBA title for long before he’s dethroned, or he vacates to go up to 147.

Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs) is fresh off his ninth round knockout victory over Ismael Barroso on May 13th, capturing the vacant WBA 140-lb belt in his first fight in the light welterweight division after a year layoff and a knockout loss to Gervonta Davis.

Rolly offering Ryan a title shot at 140

“I want it to happen, the boxing world wants it to happen, I hope Ryan and his team want it to happen, and if everyone wants it to happen, let’s make this s**t happen,” said Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero to InsideFighting about him wanting to make his first defense of his WBA light welterweight title.

“I hope we can make the fight happen. It’s the biggest fight for boxing. I know Ryan is going to come, and it’s going to be an entertaining press conference.

“It’s going to be an entertaining event altogether, and I’m going to make that entertaining because I’m the best promoter in the game. 1.5 million,” said Rolly when asked how many PPV buys a fight with Ryan will bring in.

“I have a belt. If y’all want to become world champion, come f**k with me. I believe Ryan can be a world champion by the end of this year, too, but not against me. Ryan is a tremendous fighter.

“The only people he can’t beat is myself, Gervonta Davis, and depression. I’m not going to give you any predictions until the fight is signed. When the fight is signed, you’re going to see me have so much fun.

Kingry’s new trainer = downgrade

“I’m sorry to say that’s kind of a downgrade because he was with Eddy Reynoso,” said Rolly when asked about his thoughts on Ryan Garcia teaming up with Derrick James as his new trainer. “I think he was at his best when he was with Eddy Reynoso.

“I mean, what is Derrick James going to teach Ryan? It’s not his style. Ryan Garcia is a Mexican. I’m sure he has too, but it’s not his style. I think he was at his best with Canelo.

“A trainer is a trainer, and a fighter is a fighter. How many times have you seen someone come in with the best trainer ever, and then they have the worst fight ever, and they’re paying good money?

“A trainer doesn’t make a fighter. A fighter makes a trainer. Eddy is training with Canelo, and Canelo is the best fighter in the world,” said Rolly.
