Rolly Romero on Ryan Garcia fight: “It’s going to happen”

By Adam Baskin: Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero says his fight with Ryan Garcia is “going to happen” next, and it will be huge on PPV. The newly crowned WBA light welterweight champion Rolly (15-1, 13 KOs) only wants Ryan and no one else in his first title defense.

Bragging about being rich and gloating about his controversial victory over Ismael Barroso last weekend, the 27-year-old Rolly said that the referee Tony Weeks, did the right thing by stopping it in the ninth round, because he would have finished the 40-year-old with all the time that was remaining on the clock.

Unfortunately for Barroso, there WON’T be a rematch because Rolly only wants Ryan Garcia, and then he says he’ll move up to 147 to campaign in that weight class to try and get a fight against IBF/WBA/WBC champion Errol Spence.

Ryan is well aware of Rolly’s interest in fighting him next, and he hasn’t come on social media to rule out taking him up on his offer. That’s a strong indication that Ryan sees it as an appealing option for him.

It’s understandable why, though because Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) looked like a rank amateur getting dominated by Gervonta Davis and quitting on one knee in his seventh round knockout loss on April 22nd.

If Ryan were to challenge the other champions at 140, Regis Prograis or Josh Taylor, he’d likely get blown out of the water and make less money than he would by fighting Rolly Romero for his WBA strap. At least against Rolly, Ryan would have a chance of winning because of how badly flawed the Mayweather-promoted fighter is.

Rolly convinced Ryan Garcia fight happens

“The mother f***er [Ismael Barroso] got saved [by referee Tony Weeks] from being knocked out cold, man,” said newly crowned WBA light welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on social media, gloating about his controversial victory over 40-year-old Ismael Barroso last Saturday night in Las Vegas.

“All I can say is, there’s only been one fight that has been on my mind lately, and that’s me vs. Ryan [Garcia],” Rolly continued. “We got to make that s**t happen—two-time world champion at 135 & 140 lbs.

“I’m excited. It’s going to be great. Rolly and Ryan are fighting at 140 lbs. I know it’s going to happen. I can see that s**t in the future, man. I can see that s**t. Winning at life, I’ve always been winning at life.

“Me and Ryan are going to end up fighting, and y’all are going to see this s**t. Y’all can call me whatever you want.  I’m excited for this one.

“There’s only one person on my mind and that’s Ryan Garcia. I haven’t stopped dreaming about fighting Ryan Garcia. When Rolly says he’s going to do something, he finds a way to do it. Somewhere, somehow, he’s going to find a way to do it. I’m going to find a way to do that s**t.

“I get everything I want in boxing. Me and Ryan Garcia are going to fight, I got a good feeling. I’m going to go up to 147 after I fight Ryan. Me rich, me famous. Y’all know Rolly happy today. Two-time WBA world champion of the world,” said Rolly.

Rolando only wants Ryan

“My game plan was to get him [Barroso] tired and stop his a**, and I did [prematurely],” Rolly said. “That’s boxing. I didn’t give you my game plan for a reason. Me smart-smart. Y’all watch the replay. I clipped him. He lucky-lucky. I still had so much time in that round. He lucky-lucky. He would have been hurt. He knows that. He didn’t even contest the damn s**t.

“Y’all can hate on me all you want. All I know is I’m winning in life. The only person I care about is me fighting Ryan Garcia now. That’s the only fight I give a f**k about, and that should be the only fight that y’all should care about because that’s going to be the most entertaining fight you’ve ever seen in your life. It’s going to be the most entertaining fight in boxing.

“Me vs. Ryan, I know y’all buy that on pay-per-view. My last fight, it sold out, and I didn’t even try. Rolly rich-rich. Al Haymon is the best. I get paid the most. I get paid great. Why would I switch? All I know is I’m a warrior, and I fight to the death. Rolly is patient.

“Rolly world champion at 135 and Rolly world champ at 140. I’m the only one from my generation that has two world titles from two weight classes,” said Rolando, counting his WBA interim lightweight belt from his controversial victory over Jackson Marinez as a world title.

“I started boxing at 17. I’m the fastest world champion in the history of boxing,” said Romero.

If the fight against Ryan Garcia doesn’t happen, we’ll see who Mayweather Promotions can dig up for Rolly to fight at 140 because it’s guaranteed that he’ll stay at the weight for at least one or two fights to take advantage of being a champion.
