Jared Anderson picked by John Fury as “champion when Tyson’s gone”

By Charles Brun: John Fury is picking Jared Anderson to be the guy that replaces Tyson Fury as the next WBCC heavyweight champion when he steps away from the game.

John views the 23-year-old Anderson (14-0, 14 KOs) as possessing the attributes of the next champ in the division after Fury moves on.

Anderson and ‘The Gyspy King’ have sparred, and Fury is rumored to have gotten worked over, which isn’t surprising.  Fury’s habit of posting up along the ropes, exposing his flabby midsection, is perfect for how Anderson fights. He feasts on fighters that clash with their backs to the ropes.

If Top Rank promoter Bob Arum gets his way, Anderson will take over for Fury by 2024. That’s when Arum wants to match the two in a stadium fight in Las Vegas. We’ll see if Arum gets his way because Fury seems more focused on landing big-money battles, and Anderson wouldn’t be a massive PPV-level contest. Also, it would be hard work for Fury, and he could lose.

“The only one I can think of now, he’ll be champion when Tyson’s gone, is Jared Anderson,”John Fury said to Stamina For Sale.

“I’ve watched him spar Tyson and fight. He’s the next big thing on the block.

“He’s only a kid, 6′ 4″, getting better every time; he will [take over the division],” said John about Anderson.

Anderson has knocked out everyone he’s faced but hasn’t fought a top-tier heavyweight yet. He’s headlining next against little-known Zhan Kossobutskiy (19-0, 18 KOs) on July 1st on ESPN at the Huntington Center, Toledo, Ohio, U.S. What we know from watching Anderson’s fights is he gets hit a lot and doesn’t possess massive power.

Fury has negotiated himself out of consecutive massive fights against Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.

At this point, it’s unclear whether Fury still wants to take on quality opposition, as he seems focused primarily on defending against journeymen opposition in Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte.

Some would say that Fury’s three fights against Deontay Wilder knocked whatever ambition he once had out of him.

Since escaping the third fight with Wilder in 2021, Fury has done nothing for the past two years, padding his record with easy fights against 39-year-old Chisora and 35-year-old Whyte and posting on social media.

Arum says Jared Anderson will face Fury in 2024

“I have my kid, who’s not quite there yet, but by 2024 he’ll be ready [to take on Tyson Fury], and that’s Jared Anderson, and that will sell out the big stadium in Las Vegas,” said Bob Arum to talkSPORT Boxing.

“I would put him in with anybody because there’s something magic about Anderson.”
