Eddie Hearn reacts to Ryan Garcia possibly linking up with Reynoso

By Sam Volz: Eddie Hearn views it as positive if Ryan Garcia teams up with his former trainer Eddy Reynoso to try and pick up the pieces after his loss to Gervonta Davis.

Ryan fired coach Joe Goosen after that loss without explaining it to the fans. Before hooking up with Goosenf or three fights, Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) had briefly worked with Reynoso but left him after his battle with Luke Campbell in 2021.

Hearn says that if Ryan is going to link up with Reynoso again, he needs to listen to him and follow his instructions rather than do what he wants.

Ryan will receive a lot of attention from the media and boxing public if he rejoins Reynoso’s camp because he also trains Canelo Alvarez, which means there will be a lot of media always around.

“A great fight for boxing. Well done for everybody for getting that fight on,” said Eddie Hearn to Little Giant Boxing about the Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta Davis event.

“It was a good win for Tank. Thinking about it, we should have seen that coming. It was a good performance. He’s a great fighter. Because he’s levels about Ryan Garcia,” said Hearn when asked why Tank Davis won.

“Ryan has never boxed at that kind of level before. I don’t think he’s robust enough to take that kind of punishment in a fight, and you saw that. I don’t know. I’ve heard 800, 900, 1.2. Fantastic. It shows that it works when you get it right,” Hearn said when asked about the Tank vs. Ryan event bringing in a reported 1.2 million PPV buys.

“Eddy Reynoso, for me, is probably the best trainer in the world,” said Hearn reacting to being told that Ryan Garcia contacted his former trainer Eddy Reynoso about teaming up with him again to replace his fired coach Joe Goosen.

“If you’re going to be with Eddy Reynoso, you have to listen and do what you’re told, and I’m just commenting as an outsider, as a fan. I feel like sometimes Ryan does things his way—pads with his brother and stuff like that.

“If you’re with Eddy, you give him everything. You do as you’re told. He’s your teacher. Not, ‘I’ll see you on Thursday or Monday.’ No, no. Every day, 100%. Like Cesar Martinez, the same thing, and Eddy don’t play around. If you don’t give him that commitment, your out, and why wouldn’t you give him that commitment? He’s such a good trainer. I think that’ll be a great linkup,” said Hearn.
