Ryan Garcia’s conversation with trainer Joe Goossen in the ring after the fight confirms rib injury

By Allan Fox: Showtime All Access revealed a dialogue between Ryan Garcia and his trainer Joe Goosen from last Saturday night that Ryan fought with a compromised rib during his fight with Gervonta Davis at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) went into the fight with an injury, and Gervonta’s team knew about it thanks to their mole, who reported the news back to them so they could capitalize on it by targeting his ribcage.

There are no words to describe how bad this sounds. It’s not just that Tank Davis had a mole in Ryan’s camp, learning everything they were doing and then reporting back to them. But it’s also Ryan going ahead with the fight, knowing he was injured.

If you’re one of the people that bet big money on the fight or paid to see it live or on PPV, you can’t be pleased to learn that Ryan Garcia fought with an injured rib and that Gervonta and his team knew all about it.

In hindsight, Ryan should have postponed the fight if he was injured because he was already completely out of his league experience & talent-wise taking on the former three-division world champion Gervonta, but he had stood no chance of winning by fighting with an injured rib.

Whatever shot Ryan had of winning went out the window when he decided to slug with Tank Davis in the seventh round. You know you got a rib injury, and you’re going to brawl with Tank? It almost sounds like Ryan wanted to be put out of his misery and was just looking for Tank to end him so he wouldn’t have to labor through the entire twelve rounds like a trooper.

Trainer Joe Goosen: “Did it hit that rib part at all, Ryan?”

Ryan Garcia: “Yeah.”

Goosen: “I knew it.”

Ryan: “I didn’t want to continue because of my rib.”

Goosen: “No, listen. That type of shot is the hardest. You’d rather get hit on the chin.”

Ryan: “Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’d have rather.”

Goosen: “I know, and you did [in round two], and you got up.”

It sounds so crazy that Ryan knew he was injured and fought the way he did. For the fans & bettors that paid all that money on the Tank vs. Ryan fight, they got to be furious at learning about the rib injury.
