Ryan Garcia on Gervonta Davis: “He’s going to fall face first”

By Matt Lieberman: Ryan Garcia is predicting that he’s going to drop Gervonta Davis “face first” on the canvas when he connects with one of his big shots on Saturday night.

Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta Davis is part of an exciting card this Saturday night on DAZN & Showtime PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Three notable fights on the undercard are as follows:

  • David Morrell vs. Yamaguchi Falcao
  • Bektemir Melikuziev vs. Gabriel Rosado
  • Elijah Garcia vs. Kevin Salgado

Ryan isn’t saying whether Tank will continue to fight and try to make the best of it while dealing with a broken jaw, but his team will likely halt the contest.

With all the trouble that Gervonta’s team has done to attempt to protect him from defeat, they’re not going to allow him to compete with a broken mandible or any kind of injury.

He’s too much of a money-maker for them to allow him to have his career shortened potentially by fighting with a serious injury like a jaw that has been snapped in two pieces.

“It’s their attempts to try and stop what’s going to happen,” said Ryan Garcia to the media about the spying, 136-lb catchweight, and 10-lb rehydration clause that Tank Davis’ team has set up for this fight to try and keep their fighter winning.

“I feel like I’m going to break his jaw. I think it’s going to be very devasting for him. I feel like truly he’s asleep. He’s a good kid, but he hasn’t woken up yet,” Ryan continued about his thoughts on Gervonta.

“Sometimes something really bad has to happen to you for you to wake up. This is the bad thing, and it’s going to be really bad. He’s going to fall face first with a broken jaw with nothing to say after. All he’s going to have is thoughts in his brain to think about all the things that he’s ever done. Seriously.

“He does what he does best. Live in delusion, and if you live in delusion, you’re losing. If he thinks this fight is about money, he’s living the wrong life. This money, these cameras, the people cheering, they all fade away one day. All you’re left with is your character and honor and how you lived your life.

“He’ll find out real soon. He’ll be awakened one day, but it’ll probably be Saturday night like I’ve been saying. He’s worshiping money on the stage, throwing it.  He acts like I haven’t seen this before.  I’ve seen this already. This is nothing.

“Unless he’s humble in his heart, it doesn’t matter. I’ll be ready to do my job. I’ve prepared well. I didn’t take him for granted. I know he’s a great fighter. I know he’s got a lot of talent, but I’ve got something deeper than that, and I do have talent as well. He’ll see that.

“He’s afraid of something. It’s the slingshot, man. He’s scared. As long as he didn’t take that out of the contract, I’m good. He says I got knocked out in sparring. Brother, if I got knocked out, then it should be an easy night for you if I got knocked out by a sparring partner.

“Like I said, he’s delusional. One thing I do know is he got knocked out by somebody in Floyd’s gym. Everybody knows it. Everybody over here has heard that story, and I don’t want to hear no lies. You all heard that he got knocked out cold by, I don’t know if he was a Russian fighter, but somebody knocked him out cold.

“Guess what? That doesn’t matter. It’s sparring. What did Floyd say? ‘I got my a** kicked many times. All that matters is Saturday night. That’s where it counts.’

“My first instinct is all hell is going to break loose. My second instinct is just stay calm and let him do what he does,” said Ryan when asked what he’ll do at the weigh-in if Tank puts his fist against his chin.

“I think I’m just going to let him do him. I’m going to prepare for battle. That’s it. I’m going to clear the noise. If he wants to swing, let him swing. I’ll be prepared to knock him out on Saturday night.

“If he wants to hit me, let it be. I don’t know. I have no clue. I know there’s a lot of fans for both of us,” said Ryan when asked if he thinks that he’ll have a big crowd on Saturday night. “It might be 50-50. Again, I don’t know. All I know is I’ll be happy either way, man,” said Garcia.
