Gervonta reacts to De La Hoya saying Ryan is “Face of PPV”

By Adam Baskin: Gervonta Davis finally came out of the woodwork to respond to Golden Boy Promotions boss Oscar De La Hoya saying that his fighter Ryan Garcia, “like it or not, is the new face of PPV.”

In reaction to that comment from De La Hoya, Gervonta (29-0, 27 KOs) posted a photo on Twitter showing him knowing Ryan (23-1, 19 KOs) down in the second round of their fight on April 22nd in Las Vegas.

Interestingly, Gervonta didn’t refute what De La Hoya said about Ryan being the “new face of PPV” because he can’t. De La Hoya points out that before Tank fought Ryan, his best pay-per-view events were in the 200K range.

Tank will now return whence he came back to the lowly 200K buy range after he clashed with Kingry.

The ONLY way Tank Davis can bring in a ton of PPV buys is to rematch Ryan Garcia or stop following the ‘Money May’ Floyd Mayweather Jr blueprint of cherry-picking weak opposition and the killers Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Regis Prograis, and Subriel Matias.

Unfortunately for Tank, he’s NOT going to stop following the Mayweather safety first blueprint, so he’s going to return to fighting lesser opposition, and his PPV numbers will return to the 200K or possibly 180K range because boxing fans don’t want to pay to watch the same old mismatches that they’ve been seeing from the Baltimore native.

If Tank weren’t so avoidant and believed in his ability, he would take the risky fights to increase his PPV buy rate and popularity by fighting the opposition that fans want to see against Shakur, Haney, William Zepeda, Prograis, Matias, Josh Taylor, and Gary Antuanne Russell.

Moving forward, what we’ll see from Tank is the same old same old, with Isaac Cruz trotted out for another sure-thing win for Gervonta or perhaps a rematch with Rolly Romero. In other words, it’ll be a retread opponent for Tank, with his management hoping that fans will buy this on PPV.

“He endured a lot of s**t during camp and especially fight week and with the rehydration clause with the weights and this and that,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV about Ryan Garcia.

“Come on; he endured a lot. For a kid his age being on that stage, I’m proud of him, and we’ll bring him back. It’s as easy as that,” said De La Hoya on his plans for the 24-year-old Kingry.
