Davis vs. Garcia: Ryan hitting harder for Tank fight says trainer Goosen

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Joe Goosen says Ryan Garcia is hitting harder for his fight this Saturday night against Gervonta Davis despite his weight loss to get down to the 136-lb catchweight and 10-lb rehydration clause.

Goosen says that the sparring partners have been raving about Ryan’s power in camp, and his  “power is insane” now. If that’s the case, it’s terrible news for Tank because he’s put weight stipulations in the contract to weaken Ryan, and if he’s hitting harder, it means he put them in for nothing.

Tank might as well have agreed to take the fight at 140 and saved himself the trouble of looking bad in the eyes of the fans.

It’s unclear what the fine is if either fighter comes in overweight, but it’s got to be reasonably high to keep Ryan from blowing it off and coming in over the limit. After all, there are no titles on the line for this fight. This is just about entertainment only.

Given how worried Gervonta’s management team is about this fight, it wouldn’t be surprising if the weight penalty is in the millions. The fact that Ryan hasn’t mentioned the fine suggests that he’s not allowed to disclose the amount or even the existence of one.

Ryan Garcia hitting harder

“I said that in sparring last night. You actually look faster and hitting harder than you were 10 lbs heavier,” trainer Joe Goosen said to Fight Hub TV about Ryan Garcia hitting harder despite dropping weight.

“There’s a reason for that. When you’re heavier, losing weight, getting into that great shape, your strength training is coming to a head, your road work is coming to a head, and your sparring is coming to a head,” Goosen continued about Kingry Garcia. “So your delivery system is really sharp right now.

“The sparring partners are going, ‘His power is just insane, even if he hits me on the arms,” Goosen said about Ryan. “It’s the delivery system based on the fact that we’re in peak form right now.

“Ryan has really brought himself into a physical position now where he’s just dangerous, very dangerous. I don’t know what would surprise you. Nothing would surprise me. I have the full belief that we’re going to win this fight. I would be surprised if anything other than that happened,” said Goosen.
