Ryan Garcia says Gervonta Davis’ punches won’t hurt him if he can see them

By Dan Ambrose: Ryan Garcia surprisingly says he’s not worried about the punching power of the knockout artist Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis ahead of their fight next month on April 22nd on Showtime PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

According to the 24-year-old Ryan, Tank’s shots can’t hurt him as long as he sees the punches coming. Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero was an example of a fighter that was knocked out by a shot from Tank that he didn’t see coming in their fight last year.

Before that, Rolly had handled Tank’s power without any issues and was surprisingly getting the better of him.

Hector Garcia was also handling Tank’s power in their fight last January until he got caught with a shot he didn’t see coming.

“If I’m seeing his punches, they’re not going to hurt. You get knocked out by the shot that you don’t see; that’s what people don’t understand,” said Ryan Garcia to the Showtime Sports site.

“I know Gervonta has the intention, from what I heard, is to, at some point to walk me down and keep the pressure on me,” Ryan Garcia continued.

The unbeaten Tank Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) has a KO rate of 92.86% and has KO’d 19 of his last 20 opponents going back to 2015.

Granted, Tank’s opposition has been chiefly C-level during the last eight years, but it’s still impressive that he’s knocked out that many fighters during that period.

If Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) is able to handle Tank’s power without getting hurt or knocked down, the Baltimore native could be in serious trouble because it would mean that his chin will need to handle the power of the popular Kingry, and that’s not easy.

As we’ve seen many times, Ryan has legitimate one-punch power and can end a fight at any moment with a single shot.

Tank is an excellent fighter, but he’s mortal and if he gets hit with Ryan’s left hook on the chin, he’ll go to sleep as 19 of Kingry’s 23 opponents have during his seven-year professional career.

“So obviously, I have to be prepared for that, and it’s obviously something that I already thought he was going to do because he thinks my small frame and maybe I’m not physically strong enough to keep him off, but he has another thing coming for him,” said Ryan. “I don’t look as strong as him but trust me, I’m strong.
