Is Errol Spence fighting Keith Thurman? Where is he?

By Chris Williams: Errol Spence Jr turns 33 years old tomorrow, hasn’t fought almost a year since April 2022, and there’s no word when/if he’s still fighting Keith Thurman at 154 like we’d been hearing.

The former WBA/WBC welterweight champion Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) has been strangely quiet, which is totally unlike him. Has he been told to keep quiet by PBC while negotiations are going on?

Thurman isn’t the type to keep quiet if he knew a fighter was using his name for clout purposes or as a convenient excuse to continue ducking Terence Crawford.

Why isn’t Spence being stripped?

Spence has been holding his three welterweight titles hostage for the last eleven months, and it’s going to look silly if the sanctioning bodies don’t strip him soon. The aging Spence can’t keep those belts as a permanent lifetime champion without defending them.

If we don’t hear something soon about Spence, they will have to put his face on the side of milk cartons because he’s missing in action. You got to ask whether Spence really has an interest in fighting anymore after his last fight against Yordenis Ugas, given how much of a grueling affair it was for the Texa native.

Ugas had Spence hurt and out of it after staggering him with a big fight hand at one point.

We know Spence isn’t fighting Terence Crawford because the WBO has ordered Bud to defend his 147-lb title against his mandatory Alexis Rocha, and that’s easy money for the Nebraska native and right up his ally.

Spence’s IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight titles haven’t been defended in ages, and he will have to give them up.

It could be that Thurman’s name was just thrown out there to get fans to stop pressuring Errol to fight Crawford. With fans thinking Thurman’s next for Spence, they’ve temporarily stopped pressing him to fight the Omaha, Nebraska native.

But Errol can only use Thurman as an excuse briefly because if that fight isn’t going to happen, fans will realize that he’d been ducking Crawford.

Despite fighting only TWICE in the last four years, Spence has made much money in the last four years. With an estimated net worth of $7 million, Spence has enough to retire on.

Granted, Spence’s net worth is far less than the $40 million that Youtuber Jake Paul has accumulated rapidly, but he’s still got enough of a nest egg to sit inactive for ages without the need to get up off the couch to continue his profession.

Has Spence lost his energy to continue to go to work like normal folk after making a little money?
