Gervonta Davis scolds Ryan Garcia for complaining about rehydration clause

By Adam Baskin: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis took to social media yesterday to scold Ryan Garcia for discussing with the fans & media the rehydration clause & catchweight stipulations that he put in the contract to gain an advantage over him in their April 22nd fight on Showtime pay-per-view.

Tank (28-0, 26 KOs) says Ryan is being “soft” by letting the fans know about the 10-lb rehydration clause & the 136-lb catchweight stipulations that he inserted into the contract to weaken him for their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Apparently, the WBA secondary lightweight champion Gervonta wants Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) to keep hush-mouth about the weight stipulations so that the fans are none the wiser about it and will give him more credit if he wins rather than viewing it as a situation in which he weakened Kingry.

Fans see it as pathetic for a fighter like Tank, who views himself as the real ‘face of boxing,’ using not one but two weight stipulations for his fight with Ryan. The fans on social media have ripped Tank a new one, saying, ‘If you’re all that, why do you need a 136-lb catchweight and a 10-lb rehydration clause to beat Ryan Garcia? That seems weak.’

Gervonta Davis: “I’m 145.4 without my phone in my hand. Say another word, and I’m going to say what happened to you in the gym, soft b**ch.”

Ryan Garcia: “You always act like you got some info. Shut your a** up already. You’re just a shaderoom page relax. I heard some stuff about you as well.”

Gervonta Davis: “What that petty a** Floyd said,  I couldn’t use his gym anymore. I don’t give a f**k. Nah, it’s not what I heard; it’s what I know, chump.”

Ryan Garcia: “Tank is really worried about this fight”

“People are going to be shocked when I beat him. ‘Who is this kid? He shouldn’t be able to do this,'” said Ryan Garcia to Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk.

“I just feel there’s some worry in him. ‘I can’t fight him at 140. I got kids; I got family.’ He’s really worried about this fight. I’m ready to give everything for this fight. He’s always trying to look cool, but me, I’ve got something to prove in this fight.

“He doesn’t. Everybody already believes he could win. I’m putting everything into this. I want this more than anything. I’m putting everything on the line for this. This is the mega-fight. There’s nothing else, and we’re both in our prime.

“This is going to show boxing where it’s at because if there’s a fight that should make a bunch of money, this is the one. You’ve got two prime fighters fighting right now.

“The reason why boxers have taken the Mayweather route, where you hold off for the huge fight because the fans rewarded that and bought the pay-per-views. If fans love this, of course, they’re going to buy this fight. Guess what? That’s going to influence other fighters. ‘That’s how you make big money now.

“It’s up to the fans. Do they want to pay for this fight or for the fights where you know who is going to win? This fight is probably 50-50. I see all the comments. It’s 50-50. If you really love boxing and want to continue to have these fights, I feel like your influence by buying this is going to influence other fighters to finally get together and say, ‘No, we’re bringing it back. This is what we need right here.’

“This is going to determine it. I’m still with it. I’m leading the way. Right after this, I’m calling out Devin Haney. That’s another prime fight. Bring on Devin. I fought him six times in the amateurs. Now we need to have a seventh one!

“As I always say, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover.’ Yes, I’m a guy that doesn’t look like I can fight. It’s what’s in you. It’s whether you’re going to pull that out, though.

“Boxing tests everything. It doesn’t matter if you’re the good guy or the bad guy. The truth wins. It only cares about who’s the better fighter, that’s it,” said Ryan.
