By Dan Ambrose: David Benavidez warns that Caleb Plant can’t save himself for what going to happen to him on March 25th by talking or trying to play mind tricks ahead of their fight on Showtime PPV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) bragged recently about how he purchased Benavidez’s domain name five years ago and is using it now to sell merchandise to boing fans. Benavidez thinks that’s a weird thing for Plant to have done that so long ago.
In 2018, Plant was just a contender, while Benavidez was the WBC super middleweight champion, and he looked like he could have kept that spot for years and years.
So for Plant to purchase Benavidez’s domain name back then means he was a fan of his and saw the potential to make money when he became an even bigger star. The question is, was Plant counting on the Benavidez domain name to bring him a lot of passive income like a stock or an oil well?
It’s pointless now for Plant to own Benavidez’s domain name because he made millions from his fight with Canelo Alvarez in 2021, and he doesn’t need what little money the site brings him, or at least he shouldn’t need it unless he threw it all away.
“It didn’t really bother me because when I bought my domain name five years ago, davidbenavidez dot com wasn’t available, and then I saw an interview from Caleb Plant saying that he was the one that bought the domain name five years ago,” said David Benavidez to Fighthype.
“It’s kind of weird, bro, to be honest with you, for him to go to that extent to buy the domain name that long ago. It doesn’t really matter to me. Any of my fans that go on the site and see Caleb Plant stuff, none of my fans like Caleb Plant.
“That’s no advantage to him. The only thing he wants to do is get inside my head. We’re far past that point now. The talking is done now. He’s going to have to see me, and there’s no words or talking that is going to save him from what I’m about to do to him.
“This fight is coming while I’m at my best. I’m in the beginning of my prime now, and I feel like after this fight, the sky’s the limit. I’ve been mandatory for Canelo for the past three fights.
“So after this fight, when I beat Caleb Plant, there’s not going to be any more room for him to run or say anything else. My main objective is to get that WBC belt back, and if Canelo doesn’t want to give me the opportunity, then he’s going to have to drop it.
“He’s going to face a lot of criticism if that’s the route that he wants to go. Besides Canelo, I’m the best super middleweight out there. So why would he not want to give me the opportunity?
“A lot of people want to see it, and it would be a huge fight. So it doesn’t make a lot of sense that he wouldn’t want to give me the opportunity.
“Like I said, I’ve got to go in there and do my job, and then right after this fight, I think it’s possible that we might get a fight against Canelo Alvarez right after,” said Benavidez.
