Blair Cobbs says Golden Boy “failed to promote me & failed to take me to elite level”

By Allan Fox: Blair ‘The Flair’ Cobbs says he’s no longer with Golden Boy Promotions because they failed to resign him by offering him a contract that he agreed upon.

It’s unclear whether Cobbs will be snatched up by one of the other promoters like Top Rank or Matchroom now that he’s a free agent.

The contender Cobbs (16-1-1, 10 KOs) claims that Golden Boy “failed” to promote him to take him to the “elite level,” where he believes he belongs as a top fighter following his one-sided 10 round unanimous decision victory over Maurice Hooker.

Cobbs, 33, feels that he was given up on after his ninth round knockout loss to Alexis Rocha last year in March, a fight that he states he didn’t have enough time to train for. Blair had been out of the ring for nine months leading up to the Rocha fight, and he didn’t have a long camp to get ready to face Rocha.

“I don’t mind knocking off Jaron Ennis. I don’t mind knocking off Vergil Ortiz. I don’t mind fighting guys at the top,” said Blair Cobbs to Fighthype.

“In a fair fight, I smoke him easy. It’s not even a fair fight for me,” said Cobbs about his lone loss to Alexis Rocha last year in March. “Now, with the trainers that I have and a full eight-week training camp.

“Terence Crawford will break him down and put him out,” said Cobbs predicting Crawford will stop Rocha. “Crawford will win the fight easily.

“I’m not with Golden Boy anymore until they come up with some numbers that make sense. The contract expired, and they have not brought anything to the table to resign me, and I’m not going to resign for nothing.

“I came in as a B-side fighter, and over and over again, I’ve proven myself worthy of being promoted. And over and over again, they have failed to take me to the elite level and cast me aside for their other fighters that don’t have a chance in fighting and beating me.

“Before the Maurice Hooker fight, everybody swore to God that Blair the Flair was finished, but I wasn’t finished, and I proved that last fight [against Alexis Rocha] was a circumstantial loss and a complete fluke.

“We don’t hear nothing from Golden Boy again. Before the fight, it was ‘Vergil Ortiz,’ and after the fight, nothing. You don’t believe in your guy. I will exploit it. We don’t know what Vergil Ortiz is capable of doing.

“He had a hard time hitting a moving target [Michael McKinson] that didn’t hit back. Well, Blair The Flair will hit back, and you WILL hit the deck. Chase me all you want.”
