Oscar De La Hoya: Ryan Garcia has more tools than Tank Davis

By Dan Ambrose: Oscar De La Hoya says Ryan Garcia has more tools in his arsenal than Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and he’ll be using them to defeat the popular Baltimore native on April 15th to take his career to the next level to superstardom, where he’ll be recognized everywhere he goes.

Negotiations still aren’t complete yet, however, but De La Hoya believes that they will be done soon. Once the fight is official, Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) will become more focused & determined, according to De La Hoya.

Many boxing fans believe that Tank (28-0, 26 KOs) has more tools in his arsenal because Ryan only has a left hook that he uses. Unfortunately, Ryan’s right arm is like the arms of a T-Rex. In other words, a vestigial feature is useless in his fights.

The same applies to Ryan’s jab. It’s not been developed, which puts a lot of pressure on him to be able to land his left hook.

“I’m picking Ryan because we started with Ryan, we built his career inside the ring, and we got him to where he’s at,” said Oscar De La Hoya to ESNEWS. “So, I believe in his talent, I believe in his skills, I believe in his arsenal. He has more tools than Tank Davis.

“He has more tools to beat Tank Davis inside the ring. His long jab, his long stance, his wide stance, his punches in bunches, his speed, and his power. I’ll tell you one thing. When Ryan gets going, there’s nobody that can beat him up here [brains]. He’s that strong.

“He just has to get going. When this fight gets officially announced, I’ll tell you one thing. Ryan is going to be focused and determined, and ready. He’s been training already. So he’s there already.

“He’s going to take it to another level, another notch, so I’m excited for Ryan. This is the beginning of his career. What we’re living in with social media is that you can become instant-famous, but nothing ever prepares you for when you become a world champion inside that ring, and you get that belt, and you become a superstar, where people see you on TV, where people recognize you on the streets, where people want to get your autographs and pictures

“There’s one thing about being an instant star, and there’s something about being a world champion and a great champion inside the ring. It takes you to a new height. Ryan, after you beat Tank, you better get ready because it’s a whole new level,” said De La Hoya.
