Gervonta Davis in a wheelchair with ankle injury

By Dan Ambrose: In a surprise, an old-looking Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis needed to be pushed around in a wheelchair last Sunday at the annual Super Bowl football game in Glendale, Arizona. Tank Davis has an ankle injury, and it’s expected to heal quickly.

What’s alarming is that the 28-year-old Tank Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) is tentatively scheduled to face Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) in a 12-round catchweight fight at 136-lbs on April 15th on Showtime PPV in Las Vegas.

Of course, it’s kind of jarring to see Tank in this physical condition, only two months away from a fight with Ryan in April, and it’s difficult to shake the image out of one’s mind to view him on the cusp of an athletic event.

“Gervonta Davis needed a wheelchair to get around at the Super Bowl on Sunday after recently suffering an ankle injury … but the star boxer tells TMZ Sports he expects to be healthy for his huge upcoming fight.”

The management for Tank & Ryan has been locked in turbulent negotiations for many months, and they’re still trying to resolve a stalemate over the rematch clause, which on the surface,  would seem like an easy thing to deal with, but not for them.

Ryan’s promoters at Golden Boy want to be in charge of the rematch if he wins the April  15th fight, and apparently going to get their way. With that said, it’s still unlikely Golden Boy will get that opportunity because Ryan’s chances of winning are slim.

Ryan Garcia hasn’t exactly instilled confidence in himself by choosing not to take a tune-up against 35-year-old journeyman Mercito Gesta last January, leaving many boxing fans to conclude that he doesn’t believe himself good enough to win even against this level of opponent.

As a result, people believe Ryan is only interested in a cash-out against Tank Davis, to make a killing with a huge payday, and then retiring with the loot to sit in his large mansion to continue his career as an Instagram star.

Tank Davis took the risky fight against Hector Luis Garcia last January, stopping the previously unbeaten fighter in an exciting fight on Showtime PPV in Washington, D.C. The former Mayweather Promotions stable fighter Tank was willing to take a huge risk against Hector Garcia, while Ryan seemingly lacked the confidence to fight journeyman Gesta.

“You got to favor Tank in this fight, but it’s not a fight that any man can come in. It’s not a guaranteed win for nobody,” said Andre Ward to Fight Hub TV on the Gervonta vs. Ryan fight. “Ryan has power, and he has speed. I think it’s a great fight. It’s going to be worth the pay-per-view buy and the price of admission for the show.”
