The Cully vs. Flores clash was a bout that featured two undefeated boxers who both had the aspiration to look impressive and take another step towards gaining notoriety in a division that is stacked with talent. It didn’t take long for Cully to make his presence felt as he immediately established the jab. As the opening round progressed, Cully doubled up on the jab, and he consistently landed the one-two combination.

Cully’s shots were very sharp, and as a result of a punch, a cut opened up over Flores’ right eye.

The second round was a replay of the first as the 6 foot 2 Cully continued to accurately land the jab and the one-two. At the midway point of the second round, Cully landed a big left hand that sent Flores down to the canvas.

Flores was able to get up, but he seemed to be in bad shape because his legs appeared to be wobbly. The fight continued, and Cully immediately stepped toward his wounded opponent and landed a flurry of shots that made the referee step in and put a halt to the contest.

With the TKO victory, the 27-year-old Gary Cully (16-0, 10 KOs) remains unbeaten, and he also picked up a title belt. During his post-fight interview, the native of Naas, Ireland, spoke about his confidence in his ability and his team of supporters.

“I went over to the ropes, and I told Eddie I’m a superstar. I believe that; I always believed that. I believe Matchroom has been massive for my career. I believe that Matchroom and Eddie are the best in the world, and I believe that I’m one of the best lightweights in the world as well, so it’s the perfect platform to be on.”

Currently, Gary Cully is on the outside looking in when you refer to the top names in the lightweight division. However, Cully has looked extremely impressive in his past couple of performances, and his stock is definitely on the rise. Next on Cully’s agenda, he is scheduled to be on the May 20 Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano 2 undercard.

For his homecoming bout on May 20th, Cully wants a step-up fight against an opponent such as Maxi Hughes or Jorge Linares. Cully feels as though he’s at the point of his career where all of his goals are within reach.

“Listen, I need the big names. I want the belts. I want the titles. I want the bright lights. I want the big nights. I want to travel to America and bring thousands of Irish over there with me.”
