Oscar De La Hoya shows off contract for Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia

By Craig Daly: Oscar De La Hoya posted a photo of him and Ryan Garcia with the contract sent to him from Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ management for an April 15th mega-fight on Showtime PPV.

De La Hoya made a big production about having the contract, but it’s still not signed. There will be a lot of unhappy boxing fans if Ryan doesn’t sign the contract because it contains stuff that he & his promoters at Golden Boy aren’t happy with.

The contract still needs to be looked over by Golden Boy’s management before it’s signed by the unbeaten Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs), but De La Hoya seems optimistic that the fight with Gervonta will happen in April.

De La Hoya posted this message on social media tonight:

Finally received the contract. Time to put the finishing touches, and we have a fight. April 15, let’s go!!!” said Oscar De La Hoya on social media.

Now it remains to be seen if the contract gets signed and if both Ryan & Tank make it through their training camps without suffering injuries that could cause the fight to be postponed.

Ryan hasn’t taken any chances that he might lose out on the fight with Gervonta by deciding not to take a tune-up against Mercito Gesta on January 28th.

Although that move made Ryan look weak and cemented the belief many boxing fans have that he’s just looking for a big payday against Gervonta with no chance of winning, it’s understandable why he didn’t.

The Ryan was dropped hard by the weak puncher Luke Campbell in 2021 showed that he doesn’t possess the punch resistance to get through a fight with anyone without the potential of getting knocked out.

De La Hoya looked on cloud nine today, happy to be involved in his first mega-fight since former Golden Boy Promotions star Canelo Alvarez left his company several years ago.

Losing Canelo left De La Hoya without a flagship fighter for his company. While Oscar quickly circled his wagons around Ryan Garcia, hoping he would be the next superstar for Golden Boy, it’s failed to happen, primarily due to the weak middle-of-the-road opposition that has been fed to him.

It was impossible for boxing fans to get excited about seeing Ryan Garcia fight when he was being matched against these lesser guys:

Javier Fortuna
Emmanuel Targoe
Luke Campbell
Francisco Fonseca
Romero Duno
