Hector Luis Garcia denies Haney’s claims of kicking him out of camp

By Jack Tiernan: Hector Luis Garcia says he doesn’t know what Devin Haney is talking about when says he kicked him out of his training camp because he couldn’t keep up with him.

The unbeaten 2016 Olympian Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs) helped out Haney with sparring while preparing for his fight with Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz in 2021.

Recently, undisputed lightweight champion Haney claimed that he had to boot Garcia from his camp because he couldn’t keep up with him. Hector said that Haney couldn’t break an egg with his power, and he says he’d be interested in fighting him next.

A brief video clip of the Haney-Garcia sparring was leaked last week, showing a competitive spar in which both guys landed well, and neither appeared to dominate.

It’s unclear why Haney would make up a story about Hector not being able to hang with him in their sparring sessions, but anything is possible.

Garcia, 31, has looked impressive recently, beating WBA super featherweight champion Roger Gutierrez and Chris Colbert in consecutive fights in 2022.

For a fighter that could beat those talented guys, it’s hard to imagine that he’d be kicked out of the gym by Haney for not being able to keep up.

Hector is fighting Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis next Saturday night on Showtime PPV in the main event at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C.

“I don’t what this guy is talking about. That guy can’t even break an egg,” said Hector Luis Garcia to ESNEWS when asked to confirm whether Devin Haney kicked him out of his training camp.

“He can contact Al Haymon and Luis DeCubas Jr, and we can make the fight. The other thing I want to add is I don’t know what the f**k this guy is talking about because my daughter hits harder than he does,” Hector Garcia said when asked if he’d be interested in fighting Devin Haney.

“I’m going to let the world decide. We’ve got an undefeated Olympian and world champion [Hector Luis Garcia], and they [Team Haney] and they said he wasn’t enough to push him, so they got rid of him after two days of sparring because he wasn’t enough of a push for him. But I never got a callback. Who did they bring in for sparring for Jojo Diaz? Was it Errol Spence?” said Santos.
