Bob Arum says Fury vs. Usyk could get “biggest purse in boxing history” from Middle East
By Scott Gilfoid: Bob Arum says he’s in talks with parties in the Middle East about staging the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury undisputed heavyweight clash over there, for he says it will be the “biggest purse ever in boxing history” if the fight happens over there.
With that said, if the Usyk – Fury fight fails to happen in the Middle East, Arum intends on taking it to the humongous 95,000-seat Wembley Stadium in London, England, to stage it over there.
Whether Fury will foul things up again in the negotiations by pricing himself out or setting strange deadlines remains to be seen. Once Fury opens his piehole, that could spell doom for the Usyk negotiations.
You never know what you’ll get with the 33-year-old Fury, but hopefully, Arum has put a muzzle on him to keep him from wrecking the talks with his clumsy attempts at forcing Usyk to sign on the dotted line.
Arum needs to send Fury to a deserted island with no way for him to get on the Internet and start wrecking things like we saw when he single-handled caused the Anthony Joshua talks to implode and then wound up fighting the 39-year-old journeyman Dereck Chisora.
The Top Rank promoter Arum says the Usyk-Fury fight will happen in the first quarter of this year, and he’s optimistic that it will go down.
“I’m very optimistic the fight is going to happen,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said to Sky Sports about the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury fight.
“Both fighters have agreed to do the fight, the question is the site, and we’re talking to the Middle East…They’re going to come up with the biggest purse ever in boxing history.
“And if they do, that’s where the fight is going to go because money is money. If they don’t, both fighters will agree to do the fight this spring at Wembley.
“Fighters want to do the best for themselves because a fighter’s career,” said Arum.
It’s impossible to imagine one of the rich Saudis throwing crazy money at trying to bring the Fury vs. Usyk fight over to their country because the fight could turn out to be a real eyesore if Tyson stars with the mauling tactics that he’s come to rely on to win his fights.
