Amir Khan tells Ryan Garcia how to defeat Gervonta Davis

By Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan believes he has the kryptonite strategy that Ryan Garcia can use to turn the Superman-like Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis into a more beatable opponent in April when/if the two meet up on Showtime PPV.

Khan’s advice for Ryan is rather obvious stuff that pretty much anyone would tell him. He wants Ryan to stay on the outside, use his reach, and not allow Gervonta to get on the inside to crowd him.

With the way that Ryan collapsed from one good shot by Luke Campbell, it’s a good idea that he not allow Tank Davis to get near enough to land anything because there’s a good chance this fight will end in the first or second round if that happens.

Tank (27-0, 25 KOs) has a dangerous fight this Saturday night against Hector Luis Garcia, a fighter that is arguably superior to Ryan Garcia in terms of talent, achievement, and pedigree. If Davis, 28, loses to Hector, Ryan will be out of luck.

Ryan Garcia has to keep it long and counter him every time. Throw them hard shots in. Every shot that Ryan throws has to be hard and accurate,” said Amir Khan to Fight Hub TV, giving Ryan Garcia instructions on defeating Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis next April.

“He can’t let Tank smother him, or get too close, because that’s when he’s in trouble.”

Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) has locked himself into the Tank fight, choosing not to take a tune-up against 35-year-old southpaw journeyman Mercito Gesta.

“Ryan has to have strong legs, have good feet, keep it long, keep it moving left to right. Don’t let Tank settle because once he settles, he’ll let those big bombs off,” said Khan.

With the bag that the still untested Ryan will be getting in a fight with Tank Davis, one can understand why he’s not taking any chances of him losing out on that money by fighting a decent opponent with respectable power like Gesta.

To be sure, Ryan has never faced anyone good during his seven-year professional career, and even someone like Gesta would be a threat to him.

As promoter Eddie Hearn stated, with the way Ryan is up & down, there are no guarantees that he would beat a highly motivated Gesta. Luke Campbell had Ryan on the canvas in their fight in 2021, and he might have finished him off.
