By Craig Daly: Hector Luis Garcia is hoping Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will make it a war against him on January 7th because he’s ready to slug it out with the unbeaten fighter on Showtime pay-per-view.

The WBA super featherweight champion Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs) is accustomed to his opponents going to war with him, so he naturally is hoping that the 28-year-old Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) brings the heat for their headliner on Showtime at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Boxing fans are still waiting to see if the Tank-Garcia fight will go ahead as planned because Gervonta’s recent arrest for domestic violence last Tuesday could jeopardize the match-up of being pulled from the card.

If the contest is removed from the card by the Showtime executives, then the likely fight that will go in place of it is the co-feature bout between welterweight contender Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Karen Chukhadzhian.

That’s not a great fight, but it’s as good as it gets. There likely isn’t a top 130 or 135-pounder willing to step in at the last second to face a talented fighter like Hector Garcia and risk winding up like Chris Colbert and Roger Gutierrez.

“Now this is an opportunity for me to elevate myself after a long career that has seen me succeed plenty,” said Hector Luis Garcia to Premier Boxing Champions about his fight against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on January 7th.

“These are the kind of fights that I truly need right now. Gervonta, we are working 100% towards giving fans a war. We are both here, and I am ready to prove why I’m here and why I got the chance to face off against you,” said Hector Garcia.

The 2016 Hector Garcia had an outstanding 2022, with his wins over Gutierrez and Colbert. If he can keep his success going, Tank Davis will be in trouble, particularly if he’s detached and not fully focused on this fight.

Against a fighter as skilled as Hector Garcia, Tank will need to show some variation to his game because his usual seek & destroy style of fighting is going to result in him getting hit a lot in this fight. Tank can get away with fighting like that against weak opposition like Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero and sparring partner Ivan Redkach, but not Hector Garcia.
