Anthony Joshua prefers Dillian Whyte rematch over Tyson Fury fight

By Charles Brun: Tyson Fury was apoplectic on Tuesday after learning that Anthony Joshua said he prefers a rematch with his old archrival Dillian ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte in 2023 over a fight against the single belt holder ‘Gypsy King.’

The 34-year-old Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) went on a long rant, criticizing Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) after being told that he sees a fight with Whyte (29-3, 19 KOs) as more attractive to him.

You can understand where Joshua is coming from with his preference for a fight with the 34-year-old Whyte as a more interesting one. At this point in Fury’s long career, he’s become an ugly punch & grab fighter who is incapable of putting his punches together or moving like he used to.

Fury’s game is centered around leaning on his opponents now, draining the energy out of them in the process by attaching himself to them.

Fury’s style is one that you normally see from played-out, overweight journeymen fighters, who punch and then immediately grab their opponents to begin leaning on them for support. It’s a very, very dull style to watch for boxing fans.

Fury = boxing’s version of a sea lamprey

If you’re Joshua, it’s important that he select fighters that will make it entertaining for the boxing fans because boxing, after all, is the entertainment business.

Fighting the sea lamprey-like Fury, who attaches himself to his opponents like a sea lamprey and then drains them of energy by leaning on them until they’re weakened enough for him to score a knockout.

The way that Fury bores into his opponents to drain them of their power with his leaning, it’s very parasitic and so boring to watch. Joshua is better off fighting opponents that will stand and fight rather than attach themselves to him as Fury does to drain his hosts.

Joshua prefers Dillian over Fury

Has to be Whyte. South London, north London. Fury’s good, but he’s a Manchester boy. I think Dillian has more swag,” said Anthony Joshua to British GQ when asked who he wants to fight more between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Dillian ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte.

Fury reacts to Joshua choosing Whyte over him

“Why isn’t this lad stepping up to the plate and accepting the challenge?” said Tyson Fury to iFL TV about Anthony Joshua. “Why does he want to fight Dillian Whyte for? He’s already beat Dillian Whyte. Fight me. Come to the party. It’s only a fight. You’ve already lost before.

“These guys have all been beat before. I want to fight them, and they don’t want to fight me. It’s an absolute joke,” said Fury. “I don’t think it’ll happen,” Fury said about the Joshua fight. “If it was going to happen, it would have happened in December.”
