By Adam Baskin: WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol weighed in at 174.7 lbs, while mandatory Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez weighed in at a thin-looking 174.6 lbs on Friday for their fight this Saturday, November 5th, at the Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

During the face-off, Bivol and Ramirez stared for a long time at each, looking like they both want the fight to start right away.

Ramirez looked thin like he’d trimmed down from all the weight he’d gained after his last fight.

It’s unclear how much weight Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) will put on overnight as he rehydrates for the Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) contest. In Ramirez’s last fight against Dominic Boesel, he weighed in at 174 and rehydrated to 203 lbs, which is 29 lbs that he gained overnight.

What’s on the line for Bivol is either a rematch with Canelo Alvarez or the undisputed clash against IBF/WBC/WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.

“I look at the confidence of the opponent and the team,” said Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn to DAZN Boxing about Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez being self-assured ahead of Saturday’s title fight against Dmitry Bivol in Abu Dhabi.

“Zurdo is a seasoned fighter. He’s 44-0 and a former world champion at 168 pounds. He’s boxed in stadiums and around the world. I look at the confidence of Oscar De La Hoya and Eric Gomez [of Golden Boy Promotions]. They fancy it.

“They’re coming in as a light underdog, but they’re coming into overturn the Canelo Alvarez rematch, the Beterbiev undisputed fight, and put themselves in the frame for those kinds of fights.

“I just feel this is a fight where both camps feel they’re going to win. Two elite 175-pounders and I feel we’re going to get a tremendous fight,” said Hearn.

“This is Ramirez’s Bivol moment against Canelo. This is the moment where we could find out if he really is an elite-level fighter. That’s why I feel with what’s on the line, it will produce,” said Darren Barker.

“Also, with that confidence that Bivol has gained from Canelo Alvarez, is there another level with him?” said Hearn. “He’s always cold, even in Las Vegas in Cinco de Mayo; he never looked flustered or panicked. He believes in his ability.

“Sometimes, after you produce a performance like that, maybe there’s another level, or maybe that was your moment, and you can’t produce that level again,” said Hearn.
