Bill Haney tells Teofimo Lopez Sr he wants to set up Devin vs. Teo fight

By Dan Ambrose: Devin Haney’s father/trainer, Bill Haney, posted a video clip on social media, leaving a voicemail message to Teofimo Lopez Sr, saying he wants to set up a Devin-Teofimo Jr fight, provided that both fighters win their next matches.

Bill said if Teofimo Sr doesn’t contact him back, he’s going to come looking for him at the liquor store and gas station where he hangs out at.

The former unified lightweight champion Teofimo (17-1, 13 KOs) is battling Sandor Martin (40-2, 13 KOs) in the main event on December 10th on ESPN+ at Madison Square Garden in New York.

As mentally weak as Teofimo looked against George Kambosos Jr and in his last fight against Pedro Campa, it’s way too early for Bill to be trying to set up a fight between Teo and Haney. If a limited fighter like Kambosos was able to humiliate Teofimo, Sandor can do the same, maybe worse.

Teofimo, 25, is supposed to win that fight, but you never know. Sandor is a slick fighter who could expose Teo just like George Kambosos Jr did.

For his part, undisputed lightweight champion Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) is negotiating a fight against Vasyl Lomachenko for a match that will take place in early 2023.

“Senior, you ain’t going to get away from me that easy hiding down there at the high school diploma office,” said Bill Haney on social media, leaving a message on the phone of Teofimo Lopez Sr.

“We’re going to handle our business with Lomachenko, and you’re going to handle your business with that fighter that beat Mikey Garcia [Sandor Martin]. A good little fighter too.

“You handle your business, and we’re going to handle ours. God willing, we’re going to make this thing happen because I’ve been hearing you fat mouthing all around the city about what you going to do.

“Now, I want to hear back from you to let me know that it’s on after we handle our business and you handle your business. If not, I’m going to come looking for you down at that gas station and that liquor store that you hang out at. Do you hear me?

“I ain’t got time to mess with you all day either,” said Bill Haney.

It’s not a forgone conclusion that Haney will defeat Lomachenko when or if those two fight next year. Haney could lose.
