Rising Prospect Floyd Schofield Calls Out Keyshawn Davis

Vince D’Writer: Fast rising lightweight prospect Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield was the headliner for the Golden Boy Fight Night event that took place October 20, live on DAZN at The Fantasy Springs Hotel & Casino in Indio, California. Schofield looked spectacular, as he scored a first round knockout against veteran boxer Daniel Rosas.

In August 2022, the blue-chip prospect made his debut under the Golden Boy Promotions banner by stopping Rodrigo Guerrero in the fifth round on the undercard of Vergil Ortiz vs Michael Mckinson at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Immediately after his impressive victory, Schofield was scheduled to be the headliner for the Golden Boy Fight Night event in October.

The 20-year-old entered the ring Thursday night under the impression that he could end the fight inside of one round, due to the fact that the night before the scheduled fight, Schofield dreamed about ending it in the first round with a body shot. Once the opening bell sounded Schofield attempted to make his dream become a reality as he threw and landed multiple combinations.

Rosas was pinned on the ropes and went down, but it wasn’t ruled a knockdown because Schofield pushed him. Once Rosas got up, Schofield continue the aggressive attack to the body and head of his opponent. As Rosas back was on the ropes once again, Schofield measured him with the jab, then he landed a right, and followed it up with a left hook that knocked Daniel Rosas out.

The scheduled 8-round bout lasted a mere 97 seconds as Floyd Schofield (12-0, 10 KOs) dictated the pace and collected the easy victory. Daniel Rosas (22-6-1, 14 KOs) was in retreat mode throughout the duration of the one round contest, and prior to getting knocked out, he only landed two punches.

After making the brief ring cameo, Floyd Schofield is anticipating another bout in 2022.

“Hopefully I can get another fight before the end of this year, and I want all the top dogs they call prospects, because I’m the top prospect, and I think I just proved it.”

The lightweight division features undisputed champion Devin Haney and top contenders such as Vasiliy Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis. Add in the new edition Shakur Stevenson, and the lightweight division is arguably the most competitive weight class in the sport of boxing.

The lightweight division also features a lot of depth because it has top contenders such as Isaac Cruz, Jo Jo Diaz, and William Zepeda. In addition to the stars and the contenders, the lightweight division also has a nice crop of blue chip prospects.

Even though multiple prospects are on the radar, Floyd Schofield feels like that number should be narrowed down. “Marc Castro, Keyshawn Davis, all of them, just everybody who they consider a prospect lets fight, lets see who’s the prospect. It can’t be twenty of us, only one can come out on top.”

A Floyd Schofield-Keyshawn Davis fight does have a nice ring to it, but in the sport of boxing it seems like it’s customary to give good matchups time to marinate. Hopefully this is a bout that is instant, and can be penciled in on the 2023 boxing schedule.
