By Craig Page: Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney believes George Kambosos Jr is absolutely “desperate” about their fight this Saturday because he’s said he would retire if he loses.

Haney thinks that Kambosos’s desperation will manifest itself in him being a little scrappy, going all out to try and win their second fight.

Devin (28-0, 15 KOs) and former unified lightweight champion Kambosos Jr (20-1, 10 KOs) will meet in the main event this Saturday, October 15th, at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. The televised portion of the card will start at 10:30 p.m. on ESPN and ESPN+.

Kambosos could literally transform himself into a wild man in this fight, as he goes all out looking to win rounds and score a knockout of Haney.

Given the huge advantage, Haney possesses in the boxing skills department, Kambosos may need a KO to win this fight because he’s not going to win a decision.

“Australia has been great. Definitely better than the first time, having my full team and my dad here. I’m excited about the fight. I’ve been preparing great, and I can’t wait,” said Devin Haney to Fighthype.

“I just seen right through it, the whole world seen through it. Everybody wanted him to stop the acting,” said Haney about Kambosos’ bragging and false courage.

“I feel like he’s doing something, like this part of his strategy of going quiet and whatever the case may be. He don’t want to give me that extra motivation. The greats find motivation by any means necessary.

“I’m going to go in there and do it regardless of whether he’s talking or not talking. What you saw is what you got,” said Haney about his previous fight with Kambosos.

“It was all surreal for me and a blessing to be fighting on that big stage like that, and I look forward to doing it again and having fun.

“I don’t know,” said Haney when asked if Kambosos is the best fighter he’s fought during his career. “I think my game plan kept Kambosos from his best attributes in the first fight, which I will do again in the second fight.

“We just got to see. I know he’s going to come up with a different approach and a different game plan this time around. I’m looking to pitch another shutout and handicap.

“We can always get better. His game plan will be a little bit different and will try to bit a little scrappy. He’s desperate. He said if he didn’t win. he’s going to retire.

“So he’s coming balls to the wall, so this fight will be different. I can’t focus too much on the first fight because this one will be a little different.

“Truthfully, I thought his defense was a little bit better than I thought. I didn’t hit him with any super big, big shots, but that’s about it.

“I’m just going to go in there and stick to my game plan, and how it plays out is how it plays out. I’m prepared for a good fight. I’m much stronger than even the last fight,” said Haney
