Boxing Results: Floyd Schofield Jr. KO’s Daniel Rosas!

By Ken Hissner: At Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California Thursday over DAZN Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy Promotions) presented in the Main Event ABF Continental Americas Lightweight champion unbeaten Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield, Jr. stopped Daniel “Bad Boy” Rosas in the first round. In the co-feature former WBA Mini World champion Anabel “Avispa” Ortiz defeated former WBC International Mini champ Maria “La Imparable” Micheo Santizo.

In the Main Event ABF Continental Americas Light champ Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield, Jr., 12-0 (10), #134 ¾, of Austin, TX, stopped Daniel “Bad Boy” Rosas, 22-6-1 (14), #132, of Mexico City, MEX, at 1:37 of the first round of an 8.

In the first round Schofield was all over Rosas pushing him to the canvas and later warned for hitting behind the head. After continuing to land unanswered punches Schofield dropped him to the canvas with a left hook on the chin as Referee Ray Corona called a halt without a count.

In the co-feature former WBA Mini champ Anabel “Avispa” Ortiz, 33-5 (4), #108, of Mexico City, MEX, defeated WBA Int’l Mini champ Maria “La Imparable” Mocheo Santizo, 10-2 (6), #106 ½, of Guatemala City, Guatemala, 8 rounds. 

In the first round it was Santizo having an edge and Ortiz coming back to take the second through the fifth rounds outworking Santizo. In the seventh round Ortiz used a good overhand right to control the fight. In the eighth and final round Ortiz the aggressor throughout continued out landing Santizo. Referee was Thomas Taylor.

Scores were 79-73, 78-74 and 78-75 with 79-73 from this writer.

20 year-old Super Welter Eric Tudor, 6-0 (5), #153 ½, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, impressed and stopped Ramon Marquez, 5-3 (5), #145 ½, of Tucson, AZ, at 2:41 of the second round of a 6.

In the second round a Tudor bloodied the nose of Marquez and landed a right to the body that dropped Marquez for an 8-count from Referee Thomas Taylor. Seconds later a double left hook to the body again dropped Marquez for another 8-count. Seconds later after a flurry of punches from Tudor referee Taylor stopped the fight.

20 year-old Super Feather Joshua “El Americano” Garcia, 6-0 (3), #130, of Moreno Valley, CA, edged out Christian “El Nino” Lorenzo, 3-4 (1), #128, of L.A., CA, over 4 action rounds.

In the first two rounds were action packed and even. In the third and fourth rounds it was close with Garcia possibly pulling it out against the much older Lorenzo who returned to the ring after a seven year layoff in his second fight this year. Referee was Ray Armendariz.

Scores were 40-36, 39-37 twice as did this writer. 

Super Welter southpaw Jorge “Scarface” Estrada Ramirez, 4-0 (3), #149 ¾, of Mexicali, Baja California, MEX, won a majority decision over Sergio “Marino” Gonzalez, 6-12-1 (2), #155, of Tamaulipas, MEX, over 4 rounds.

In the first round after scoring all three fights in the first round Estrada forced to go into the second easily winning the first round. In the second and third rounds Estrada stalked Gonzalez who didn’t make it easy for the hard punching Estrada though not winning a round. 

In the fourth and final round Estrada did too much head hunting with his right instead of going to the body more going the distance for the first time against the game Gonzalez who had his best round. Referee was Ray Corona.

Scores were 38-38 and 40-36 twice as did this writer.
