Golovkin not bitter about past Canelo fight

By Sam Volz: Gennadiy Golovkin insists that he doesn’t feel a great need for revenge about his trilogy fight against Canelo Alvarez on September 17th.

Despite what many fans believe were robberies in the first two Canelo-Golovkin fights, GGG says he’s not angry about what happened in the past.

Indeed, the 40-year-old Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) says what happened in the past in his two previous encounters with Canelo was ages ago and that he’s going to “make new story.”

If Golovkin defeats Canelo, it’ll surely keep their rivalry going for fourth fight between them. Canelo isn’t the type to walk away from a defeat, particularly if it involves his arch rival Golovkin.

Of course, some boxing fans would argue that the reason Golovkin isn’t  bitter about the two previous fights against Canelo is because he’s just looking for a final cash-out payday before riding off into the sunset with the retirement money.

Only Golovkin knows for sure if he’s only taking this fight for the money, and doesn’t care if he loses or not at this point. Some fighters just seem happy for the chance for the big payday when they fight Canelo.

“I know this business. If he really won the rematch, he got to the match,” said Golovkin to Behind the Gloves about Canelo. “I don’t feel bad for him. This isn’t my story. I don’t have a problem. If he has a problem, it’s not my problem,” said GGG.

Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) is still upset about the things Golovkin said about him before their second fight in 2018, which the Mexican star won by a 12 round majority decision.

Golovkin let the media know what he thought of Canelo following his failed test for the banned PED clenbuterol.

“That was a long time ago. We make new story,” said Golovkin when asked if he wants revenge against Canelo. “Absolutely not. I feel so comfortable,” said GGG when asked if he feels more pressure to win the fight due to the judging in his two previous encounters with Canelo.

“I’m enjoying my age. I’m 40-years-old. More mature, and I had good experience,” said Golovkin.
