Tim Bradley says Ryan Garcia shouldn’t fight Gervonta Davis

By Brian Webber: Tim Bradley says Ryan Garcia shouldn’t take the fight with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis right now at this stage in his career because it’s not worth the risk of going against the dangerous Baltimore slugger.

Bradley feels that the famous undefeated Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) is too valuable of an “investment” to be fighting a slugger that is in the “zenith” of his career like WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Tank (27-0, 25 KOs.

Bradley would like for the 23-year-old Ryan to get a year or two of seasoning under his belt to develop more before going up against a fighter like Gervonta Davis because he’ll be more prepared when he’s in his mid-20s for this dangerous fight.

You got to wonder why Oscar De La Hoya is willing to let Ryan take this foolish risk right now. Is it because De La Hoya believes Ryan can win, or is he too afraid to be firm with him and set limits the way a good promoter ought to do?

The fact that Floyd Mayweather Jr is chomping at the bit to make this fight suggests that he knows Gervonta has a high chance of winning, so he’s not afraid to make this match-up like he would if it were someone that could embarrass his fighter. Mayweather has never wanted to let Tank fight Vasyl Lomachenko,  which means he doesn’t think he could win that fight.

“Let me put the business hat on. Hell no,” said Tim Bradley to The Volume when asked if Ryan Garcia should fight Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis now at this point in his career.

“I wouldn’t put my investment in the ring with a puncher like Gervonta Davis, no matter how bad he wants it. You can’t pay me enough money to put me in the ring with Gervonta Davis with my guy Ryan Garcia.

“I mean, you could see Ryan could be a household name real soon. This guy could sell out arenas, but I think it’s a little bit too soon. Tank Davis is a seasoned pro right now; he’s right in his prime. You want to keep this young gun away from him for a year or two.

“Let him continue to grow, and once you see that he’s ready, then make that leap. Me being a fighter, hell, yeah, let’s do it. There’s something he sees that he can take advantage of with Tank Davis,” said Bradley about the 23-year-old Ryan.
