Tank Davis “to put Ryan Garcia to sleep” says Andre Rozier

By Allan Fox: Trainer Andre Rozier says Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will put Ryan Garcia to “sleep” when the two meet up soon, possibly in November.

Rozier feels that the tall 5’10” unbeaten Ryan (22-0, 18 KOs) doesn’t use his height, and that would be his downfall against WBA ‘Regular’ lightweight champion Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs).

Ryan’s stance is similar to a ‘Great Blue Heron’ wetlands bird, and his head will be on a swivel for Tank to nail repeatedly with big power shots.

If Ryan can’t even stand up to the light shots from Luke Campbell, you can only imagine what Tank Davis will do to him. I’m not sure Ryan believes he can win that fight. Some boxing fans believe Ryan wants the payday.

Tank sleeps Ryan Garcia

“I called it. He actually did, he gave me more than I thought he was going to give me by being aggressive and putting it together,” said trainer Andre Rozier to Fighthype when asked if Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero was more impressive against Gervonta Davis than he expected.

“Gervonta big time,” said Rozier when asked to predict Tank Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight. “I think he’s going to put Ryan to sleep. He [Ryan] has to use his natural attributes.

“He’s a taller fighter and has a long, rangy anatomy. He should be using that, keeping his jab going, 1-2 hook, 1-2 bodies. I’d like to see him do that,” said Rozier about Ryan Garcia. “He doesn’t have to fight the way he does.

“He can settle down and become more of a sharpshooter, and I think his performances would reap the rewards of him doing that,” said Rozier on what Ryan should do to change his fighting style.

Lomachenko vs. Gervonta = two top dogs at 135

“He was using the jab. He wasn’t as wild and unorthodox as I thought he would be. He actually did a good job. I was thinking that if he needs to go after the biggest dog, he needs to go after Lomachenko,” said Rozier on who Tank Davis should fight.

“Without a doubt,” Rozier said when asked if Lomachenko is still the top dog in the lightweight division. “Very strategic, super-duper strategic,” Rozier said on how a fight between Tank Davis and Lomachenko would play out.

“You have one of the best articulating fighters on the planet. I think it’s going to be a very strategic match, and you’re going to have to watch for angles, speed, and all the other assets that come into that.

“It’s going to be very interesting; I’d love to see it. When the parables are the same, I have to go with the youth of it, and I’d have to go with Gervonta if I had to,” said Rozier in leaning in the direction of Tank Davis to defeat Lomachenko.

“I’m not saying that’s what will play out. My mind might tell me something else if I had to honestly pick what was going on, but it would be a fantastic fight,” said Rozier.
