Boxing Results: Stephen Fulton Defeats Danny Roman!

By Ken Hissner: At the Armory, Minneapolis, Minnesota, over ShoBox, Thompson Boxing, and Kings Promotions Saturday in the Main Event, WBC and WBO World Super Bantamweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton of Philadelphia, PA, defended his titles defeating former WBA and IBF Super Bantamweight champion Danny “The Baby Face Assassin” Roman, of L.A., CA.

In the Co-Main Event, WBA World Super Middleweight champion Cuban David “Osvary“ Morrell of Minneapolis, MN, stopped Kalvin “Hot Sauce” Henderson of Fayetteville, NC, in 4 rounds.

In the Main Event, WBC and WBO World Super Bantam champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton, 21-0 (8), #121 ½, of Philadelphia, PA, defeated former WBA and IBF World Super Bantam champion Danny “Baby Face Assassin” Roman, 29-4-1 (10), #121 ½, of L.A., CA, over 12 rounds.

In the first round, Fulton had an edge using his jab, while in the second round, Roman came back to take the second and third rounds with a good body attack. In the fourth’s final minute, Fulton landed a pair of rights to the chin of Roman to even things up.

In the fifth round, Roman continued being the aggressor outworking Fulton. In the sixth round, Fulton countered with numerous rights to the chin of Roman. In the seventh round, Fulton boxed well and rocked Roman, turning southpaw with a left on the chin.

In the eighth round, Fulton countered Roman the entire round. In the ninth round, Fulton landed a three-punch combination midway and continued countering with rights to the chin of Roman. In the tenth round, Fulton continued giving Roman a boxing lesson.

In the eleventh round, Roman landed his best punch of the fight, a right to the chin of Fulton. This seemed to make Fulton fight harder, taking it to Roman the rest of the round. In the twelfth and final round, Fulton continued one step ahead of Roman taking the second half of the fight bit time. The Referee was Mark Nelson.

Scores were 119-109 twice and 120-108 with this writer 117-111.

In the Co-Main Event, southpaw WBA Super Middle champ David “Osvary” Morrell, 30-3-1 (11), #166 ½, of Minneapolis, MN, stopped Kalvin “Hot Sauce” Henderson, 15-2-1 (11), #167 ½, of Fayetteville, NC, at 2:35 of the fourth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the first round, Morrell had Henderson against the ropes the entire round, with Henderson receiving a cut over his left eye from a right hook. In the third round, Henderson was fighting well off the ropes in a close fight. Morell had Henderson out on his feet with a flurry of punches at the bell.

In the fourth round, Morell had Henderson on the defense on the ropes landing half a dozen unanswered punches when suddenly, the Referee Luis Pabon prematurely called a halt to the upset of Henderson.

Super Lightweight Karl “The Dynamite” Dargan, 20-2 (10), of Philadelphia, PA, stopped by Alfredo “Ojo” Santiago, 14-2 (6), of DR and Fajardo PR, at 1:21 of the first round of a scheduled ten rounds.

In the first round, referee Ricky Gonzalez called a halt.
