By Ken Hissner: At the Auditorio Municipal, Torreon, MEX, over ESPN+ Friday, in the Main Event Junior Bantamweight David “El General” Cuellar scored his seventh straight knockout and stopped Yader “Chocolate” Cardoza in five rounds.

In the co-feature, a rematch, WBC World Female Bantamweight champ Yuliahn Luna reversed an early loss in 2014 to easily defeat Jessica “La Magnifica” Gonzalez over ten rounds.

In the main event, Junior Bantamweight David “El General” Cuellar, 22-0 (15), of Queretaro, MEX, stopped Yader “Chocolate” Cardoza, 26-18-1 (8), of Managua, NIC, in the fifth round of a scheduled ten rounds.

In the first round, the taller Cuellar had an edge. In the final thirty seconds, a right from Cuellar almost put Blandon through the ropes as the referee called it a slip. Blandon came back in the last ten seconds, rocking Cuellar with a right that had him in trouble at the bell.

In the second round, what looked like a knockdown by Cuellar was ruled a slip. In the third round, Cardoza lost a point hitting behind the head. Due to a clash of heads, Cuellar was cut on the left eyebrow. In the fourth round, Cuellar suffered another cut, this one on the right eyebrow of Cuellar.

In the fifth round, a solid right to the body of Cardoza from Cuellar and down he went for the count on a knee.

In a rematch co-feature, WBC World Female Bantamweight champ Yuliahn “La Cobrita” Luna, 24-3-1 (4), of Gomez, Palacio, Durango, MEX, avenged an earlier defeat to defeat Jessica La Magnifica” Gonzalez, 8-6-2 (1), of Mexico City, Distrito Federal, MEX, over 10×2 lopsided rounds.

It was back in 2014 that Gonzalez defeated Luna, and this is a rematch the now world champion Luna has looked forward to. In the first round, Luna had the edge as when she got the best of Gonzalez, the latter clinched. In the second round, Gonzalez kept coming forward while Luna countered her well, especially with rights to the head. At the end of the round, Gonzalez had much swelling under her right eye.

In the third round’s early seconds, Gonzalez landed a left uppercut knocking the head of Luna back. For the remainder of the round, it was Luna having control. In the fourth round, Gonzalez continued coming forward and when countered, usually fell into a clinch.

In the fifth round started getting frustrated by the halfway point while in a clinch gave a shoulder bump into the chin of Luna, costing her a point. In the sixth round, it was more of the same, with the swelling under the right eye getting worse for Gonzalez but still forcing the action before falling into but another clinch.

In the seventh round, Gonzalez got away with another shoulder bump into the chin of Luna. Luna has won every round but Gonzalez never stopped coming forward. In the eighth round, Gonzalez was cut on the bridge of her nose. Luna got away with hitting behind the head of Gonzalez on several occasions.

In the ninth round, Luna continued being one step ahead of Gonzalez with hand and foot speed. In the tenth and final round, a fight filled with too many clinches, and Luna winning every round, with Gonzalez having bruises under both eyes and a cut on the nose at the end.

Bantamweight Luis “Peluchin” Araujo, 11-0-2 (8), of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, MEX, scoring a pair of knockdowns, stopped Francisco “Junior Zurdito” Rivas, 8-9 (5), of Castanos, Coahuila de Zaragoza, MEX, in the third round of a scheduled eight rounds.

In the first round, it was all Araujo, whose body attack never stopped backing up Rivas, who on several occasions landed left uppercuts to the chin of Araujo. In the second round, Araujo flurried with a final left hook to the mid-section and dropped Rivas for an 8-count in the last minute of the round. Rivas suffered a cut on the left eyebrow and on the bridge of his nose.

In the third round, Araujo continued his assault on the body of Rivas, dropping him for the final time as the referee waved it off.

Featherweight southpaw Jose Trujillo 15-6-2, was stopped by Jorge Mata, 13-0-2 (9), at 1:22 of the fourth round.

In the first three rounds, Mata put the pressure on Trujillo, who, when backed to the ropes, fought back but not enough to win one round.

In the fourth round, after a minute, a left to the body from Mata and down went Trujillo for an 8-count. Halfway through the round again, from a left to the body and Trujillo took the count on his knee.
