Eddie Hearn says Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano need each other

By Jeff Aronow: Eddie Hearn says Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s best option for their next fight is for a rematch to take place.

Many U.S boxing fans who watched last Saturday’s fight between undisputed female lightweight champion Taylor (21-0, 6 KOs) felt that Serrano (42-2-1, 30 KOs) was robbed blind by the judges that worked their fight at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Interestingly, many British fans feel that the fight result was a fair one, with the Irish fighter Taylor being given the win.

In looking at it from a non-biased view, it did appear that Taylor failed to do enough to win the fight by choosing to go into the survival mode from rounds six through nine after she was lit up like a Christmas tree by Serrano in the fifth.

Taylor did fight hard in the tenth, but she was hurt once again. Sadly, all three judges gave Taylor the tenth round, which highlights how poor the scoring was by the judges. Surprisingly, these three didn’t give Taylor the fifth round as well.

He admits that neither fighter has anyone else that they can fight that would create the same amount of interest that they would get batting each other again.

The scores: 97-93, 96-93 for Taylor, and 96-94 for Serrano.

“I think everyone is going to want to see that fight again,” said Eddie Hearn to iFL TV on the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano rematch. “I don’t know. Sometimes, you need each other,” Hearn said when asked what happens with Taylor if Serrano isn’t her next opponent.

“What other fight Amanda can take would be near as big? And maybe, what other fight Katie can take that would be anywhere near as big?”

“People keep talking not only about the size of the crowd but the noise,” said Hearn to Fight Hub TV about the fan excitement for Taylor-Serrano.

“In the fourth, [round 5], she tried to catch & counter, and she didn’t need to do that, but she loves to fight, and that’s why people love to watch her,” continued Hearn about Taylor choosing to stop moving nonstop and actually fight in the fifth round, and she paid for it big time.

“How she showed to come back in the sixth was incredible and box in the back end of the fight. In the tenth, it was an absolute war. I thought she won the contest 6-4, and I felt she deserved to retain her belts.

“I want to take her back to Ireland. It would be a shame if we didn’t do that before her career is over, but let’s let her celebrate this,” said Hearn about wanting Katie Taylor to fight.

“She was the biggest star in female boxing, and she is now, on the one hand, one of the biggest stars in world boxing,” said Hearn in going a little overboard with his praise of the 35-year-old Taylor.

“Liam Smith was great against Jessie Vargas. He was very, very powerful,” said Hearn.
