Demetrius Andrade reacts to Canelo loss to Bivol, wants Benavidez fight

By Dan Ambrose: Demetrius Andrade thought it was amusing that Canelo Alvarez was beaten by WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol earlier this month.

Andrade notes that Canelo had called him a “horrible fighter,” and then he found himself getting outboxed by a Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs), a fighter that got the better of the Mexican star using his “simple foundation.”

The former two-division world champion Andrade attempted to get a fight against Canelo last year by coming to his post-fight press conference after his win over Billy Joe Saunders.

Instead of Canelo being agreeable to fighting Andrade, he ordered him out of his post-fight press conference, giving him the bum’s rush.

Demetrius says he’s interested in fighting David Benavidez, Caleb Plant, and Jermall Charlo. After Canelo’s treatment, Andrade knows better than to ask him for a fight.

Andrade ridicules Canelo

“We’re getting treatment, and once the treatment is done, we’re going to call out all the people,” said Demetrius Andrade to Fighthype. “Plant, David [Benavidez], Charlo, of course.

“He called me a horrible fighter, but he just got beat by a basic foundation,” said Andrade about Canelo Alvarez’s loss to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

“I can be throwing uppercuts from a mile away and hitting people with s***. Nah, I wasn’t surprised,” said Andrade when asked if he was surprised that Canelo lost to Bivol.

“It was okay for him to dodge me and go fight Kovalev, who was washed up, damaged, beat down, and all this other s***. He [Canelo] got beat by a boxer [Bivol] with a simple foundation,” Andrade said.

Demetrius wants a big fight

“Yeah, because we’re kind of in the same position, me and David [Benavidez],” said Andrade. “We understand the situation that we’re in. We want to dance with the best, and he wants to dance with the best.

“He’s having trouble. If I can come along and make things happen where we can put a great fight together sooner than later because I don’t have the fountain of youth. But I’m good-looking, tall, black and handsome; it’s me again. It’s time to make some things happen.

“I think the WBO canceled that movement, so I can do whatever it is, but it’s cool if the opportunity is still there,” said Andrade about his fight against Zach Parker being canceled by the WBO. Andrade was supposed to fight Parker for the interim WBO super middleweight title.

“If I can get a bigger name and bigger star, why not? The time is now for me,” said Andrade when asked if he wanted to jump into the deep end for a fight against David Benavidez or take someone else.

“Janibek is not, you know? You guys want me to fight who I just named, or do you want me to do that? Do you know what I’m saying? Let’s be real with the facts. We’ve got to make these fights happen,” said Andrade about him preferring to fight Benavidez Plant or Jermall Charlo over Janibek.

“Of course not,” said Andrade when asked if it’s not worth it for him to fight Janibek. “I’ve been in this game for too long not to get these fights that we need to be putting on for the fans.

“I’d do it because that’s the line I’m in, but if I can go elsewhere to make better opposition with a name and we’re moving on in life, then it’s all good.

“I’m coming to support boxing. Pretty soon, I’m going to be in everybody’s face.

“I think Rolly is slow enough for Gervonta to do all the countering he wants to do,” said Andrade about tonight’s headliner fight on Showtime PPV between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

“In deeper waters, there might be the possibility to stop him, but Rolly looks like he’s in great shape to go down and get back up if that’s the case. I’m looking to see the tenth round or the ninth round; it could be a knockout by Gervota,” said Andrade.
