Bill Haney: “Kambosos fights off ego”

By Chris Williams: Bill Haney believes unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr fights strictly off ego and looks to fire back at his opponents when he’s hit.

Kambosos’s ego-driven instinct to want to lash out immediately will be the key to Haney defeating him.

The consequence of Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) being a fighter with a tremendous ego is that he can be lured in by traps from WBC lightweight champion Haney and eventually taken apart.

Having a big ego like Kambosos can be positive. Still, in the end, it’ll be his downfall, starting on June 4th when he faces the American talent Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) in the main event at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

Kambosos fighting in front of 50,000 of his Aussie fans will result in his ego & pride, causing him to want to retaliate immediately each time Haney touches him up with shots.

Outside of the ring, Kambosos is entertaining to listen to how he builds himself up to the fans, but that stuff doesn’t help when you’re fighting.

Kambosos is excellent at self-promoting, but it’s a different story when you’re in the ring with a healthy A-level fighter like Haney. The bragging won’t help Kambosos.

Devin = Venus Flytrap

Haney will be the equivalent of a Venus flytrap, luring Kambosos in with jabs & right-hand shots. Once ‘the Emperor’s ego kicks in, he’ll attack immediately, falling into Devin’s traps.

Haney will bait Kambosos with a soft job, and when he looks to retaliate, he’ll be walking into Devin’s traps again & again on June 4th.

“It was 500 people, and they would all be against me,” said Devin Haney to Top Rank Boxing about how he started his career fighting in Tijuana, Mexico.

“I would have to go in there with a mindset that I have to pitch a shutout. I can’t put it in the judges’ hands.

“It won’t be no different,” said Haney when asked if he could perform the same in front of 40,000 people in Australia as he did in front of 500 in Tijuana.

“Me fighting in front of 500, 1000, 2000 people, booing me and the whole place against me, I’ve got to silence the crowd,” said Haney.

The huge pro-Kambosos crowd that will show up at the Marvel Stadium will lead to Kambosos’ ego-driven tendencies to kick in, making him easy prey for Haney to pick apart.

Devin has dissected Kambosos

“We’ve dissected Kambosos and know what he’s going to do, when he’s going to do it, how he’s going to do it, and why,” said Haney.

Kambosos fights off ego. Whatever you’re going to do, he’s going to come right back,” said Bill Haney. “That could be a good thing, or that could be a bad thing. It depends on how you bait him in.”

“He and his team made sure there was a rematch clause,” said Haney. “If he were to lose, we’d have to do it again in Australia.

“If I can beat you one time, then I can beat you twice,” Haney said.
