By Dan Ambrose: David Benavidez and Jermall Charlo almost got into it on Saturday night while attending the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Yordenis Ugas fight at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The highly ranked unbeaten 168-lb contender Benavidez (25-0, 22 KOs) says Charlo got in his father Jose Benavidez Sr’s face and had words with him.

David said he went up and confronted Jermall, and he says he thought he was drunk because he was “slurring his words” and couldn’t stand. Benavidez says he told Charlo that he was going to “beat his a**.”

Benavidez wants to fight Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs), who currently holds the WBC middleweight title. For them to fight, Charlo will need to move up in weight to 168.

We’re probably not going to see a fight between Charlo and Benavidez anytime soon because Canelo Alvarez is expected to fight Jermall next year.

While he’s got the chance to get a big payday fight against Canelo, it’s highly unlikely that Charlo will want any part of fighting a killer like Benavidez.

“He was running his mouth that’s all he does,” said David Benavidez to Fight Hub TV about him and Jermall Charlo having words on Saturday night at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

“He was trying to go f*** with my dad, so I pulled up. He didn’t do nothing. He was just running his mouth, that’s all he does,” Benavidez continued about Jermall.

It would have been bad news if Charlo started throwing punches because there were so many people in the crowd that would have likely joined in.

“Like always, he tries to run his mouth but he never does anything. I told him I was going to beat his a** and f*** his a** up. It was the same trash talk going back and forth.

“He looked like he was drunk, to be honest with you. Couldn’t even stand and was slurring his words, talking all this s***, saying he was going to beat.

“It definitely has to happen now, definitely,” said Benavidez when asked if a fight between him and Jermall will happen. I’m excited, bro. It’s a good fight. Hopefully, we can make it here [AT&T Stadium].

“I can have all my people here. His own people in Texas don’t like him. I feel like I’ve got my fans than him in Texas,” Benavidez said about Charlo. “Every time they showed face on the screen everybody booed him,” said Benavidez.
