Rolly Romero is “GARBAGE” says Shakur Stevenson, predicts Tanks stops him

By Jim Calfa: Shakur Stevenson thinks Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero “sucks” as a fighter, and he’s predicting Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will knock him out in their fight in May 28th on Showtime pay-per-view at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

WBO super featherweight champion Stevenson has watched some of the unbeaten #1 WBA lightweight contender Rolly’s fights, and he says “garbage” and deserved a loss in his fight against Jackson Marinez in 2020.

Rolly won that fight by a 12 round unanimous decision, but many fans felt that Marinez should have had his hand raised. That was a tough fight to score because Rolly was landing some hellacious shots in each round. Marinez was outworking Rolly, though, but the power wasn’t there for him.

To his credit, Marinez took them, but it looked bad that he was getting hit with punches that would have knocked out most fighters at 135. Rolly’s punching power is like a welterweight. He hits very hard, and he’s awkward, making him difficult to deal with.

Stevenson feels that Rolly hasn’t fought anybody noteworthy, but he’s getting the opportunity to fight Tank Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) for his WBA ‘regular’ lightweight title on May 28th in the main event on PPV on Showtime.

Rolly, 26, is with the same promoter as Gervonta, 27, in being signed to Mayweather Promotions, making the fight a no-brainer for them.

Shakur predicting KO for Tank Davis

“Tank by knockout. I think Rolly sucks,” said Shakur Stevenson to Fighthype. “I think he’s one of the worst boxers in boxing. I feel like he don’t fight nobody, but he’s getting an opportunity right now because he’s not fighting anybody.

“When he had a hard fight, he lost,” said Shakur about Rolly’s controversial 12 round unanimous decision over Jackson Marinez in 2020.

The judges gave it to Rolly because his shots were so hard in comparison to Marinez’s, and that made it a difficult fight to score. Yeah, Marinez was landing more often, but Rolly’s punches were massively powerful.

When they would land, you could see the difference in the power. Martinez showed a great chin in that fight, but he didn’t do him any good.

“We want to take about my fight with [Jeremiah] Nakathilia; I won every round,” said Shakur. “In my fight with Nakathilia, I won every round, but he fought that dude [Marinez], and he clearly lost the fight, and they gave him the fight.

“So, that was a bad night for him,” Shakur said of Rolly. “A bad night for me is me dominating. You don’t hear nobody saying Nakathilia got robbed or nothing like that,” said Stevenson.

You can argue that Rolly made it more exciting in his controversial win over Jackson Marinez than Shakur Stevenson did in his boring victory over Jeremiah Nakathilia.

Stevenson was using his pull-back style all night long, retreating backward after every punch he threw. It made him look weak and timid. Rolly was more entertaining to watch in his fight with Marinez than Stevenson was against Nakathilia.

Stevenson says Rolly is “Garbage”

“I watched him fight, and I’m not impressed. I think he’s garbage,” Stevenson continued about Rolly Romero. “He needs to stop talking s***. He was talking a lot of s***.

“In due time, Tank is going to put him to sleep. I can’t wait. Yeah, I think that’s the best thing about him. He does fight kind of like [Richardo] Mayorga,” Stevenson said in comparing him to retired former two-division world champion Richardo Mayorga (32-12-1, 26 KOs).

“He’s kind of awkward like you said and a little strong, but skills pay the bills. I feel like Tank is skillful, and he’s going to use his skills and set him up with a big shot.

“It may even be a body shot. I hope it’s a body shot. I pray that it’s a body shot. I think a body shot would convince a lot of people.

“I hope he hits him with a body shot,” said Shakur in wishing that stops Rolly Romero with a punch to the midsection.
